MaryAnn Wendel, age 93, of Valley City, formerly of Sanborn, ND, died Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 7th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sanborn, ND. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City and one hour before the services Wednesday evening and Thursday morning at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sanborn, ND. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery near Sanborn, ND in the spring.
MaryAnn Therkildsen, the daughter of George and Alma (Bjerkeset) Therkildsen, was born July 22, 1919 in Huron, SD. MaryAnn grew up and attended school in the Huron, SD area. When MaryAnn was 19, she attended a dance in Eckelson, ND where she met the love of her life, John Wendel. They were married four months later on September 29, 1939 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sanborn, ND. In 1949, John and MaryAnn bought their own farmstead south of Sanborn where they resided until 1976 when they built a new house in Sanborn, ND. While living on the farm many memories were made. John and MaryAnn raised four children. Farming was a family affair as well as feeding and raising the variety of livestock. The couple farmed until their retirement in 1980. MaryAnn had many memorable and loving characteristics. Some of which she will be remembered are her passion for family, faith, farming and fishing. Many may remember seeing MaryAnn and John fishing for countless hours on their pontoon at Lake Ashtabula. They were easy to spot, with John in his overalls and MaryAnn in her wide brimmed hat. Not to mention the stringer of fish that was often hanging on the side! Mary Ann Loved BINGO, oil painting, cards and dancing. MaryAnn was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Christian Mothers, Sacred Heart Guild Circle #4, the American Legion Auxillary and the Valley City Eagles Club. MaryAnn was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed by anyone who was blessed to know her.

Francis “Frank” Joseph Bernhardt, 71, Fargo, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Essentia Health in Fargo. He was born on September 6, 1941 in Strasburg, ND to Eugene and Maggie (Roehrich) Bernhardt. He spent his childhood in Fargo.
On May 25, 1963 he married Carol Brandvold at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead, MN. He worked as an estimator and buyer at Midwest Mechanical Inc. for many years, and in 1974 he was named Vice President of the sheet metal department. Frank later started his own company, Bernhardt Sheet Metal, Inc. and ran this business for 27 years.

Luci was born June 17, 1952 at the Ada Hospital, the fifth child of Gerard and Judy (Barrett) Spaeth. She graduated from Ada High School in 1970. Luci completed a science degree at Bemidji State College and a Nursing Degree at St. Lukes School of Nursing.
