Fern Herzog
Fern passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo at the age of 88.

Fern was born on July 8, 1925, the daughter of Wilson and Hannah (Semling) Dickinson, in Kelliher, MN. She grew up and attended school in the Rochert, MN area. Fern was united in marriage to Merlin Herzog on June 7, 1947 in Mahnomen County, MN. They lived in Detroit Lakes, MN and she worked for over 30 years at Norby’s Department Store in the Men’s Department. In 2007, they moved to Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo. Merlin passed away on April 1, 2009, and Fern continued living at Bethany until her passing.

Tracy John Schmidt, 54, West Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, April 2nd, 2014 at Vibra Hospital of Fargo after a short illness. He was surrounded by family and loved ones.

Tracy was born May 15, 1959 in Fargo to Allen and Rita (Meehan) Schmidt, the 3rd of 3 children. Tracy was born with Down's Syndrome and lived in Grafton, Grand Forks, and Friendship Village in Fargo. Red River Human Services, Svee home in Fargo (later West Fargo), was his home for many years until his passing.

Walter Bauer, 90, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014 at Eventide, Moorhead.

Walt was born to Conrad and Wilhelmina (Schmidt) Bauer January 30, 1924 at Artas, SD. Walt married Helen Gant on September 25, 1948 in Sioux City, IA. The couple lived briefly in Vermilion, Sioux Falls, Huron, and Lemmon, SD, respectively, before making their home and raising their nine children in Valley City, ND from 1957 until 2004. They then moved to the Eventide Senior Living Communities, Moorhead, MN.

Donald Francis Mugan, age 68, of Fargo, N.D. died April 3, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family, after a two-year battle with ALS.

Don was born January 23, 1946 in Emmetsburg, Iowa to George F. Mugan and Marie M. (Domek) Mugan. After graduating from St. Mary's High School, he attended Emmetsburg Junior College and Minnesota State University, Mankato, where he earned his bachelor's degree in industrial arts.

William Robert "Bucky" Wang
Bucky was born on the Grandin Farm, west of Halstad, MN. He was raised in Halstad. On 8/15/1950 he married Cleona Lhotka. 2 months later he was called back to the Marine Corps and served in Korea. Upon return, they moved to Fargo for 2 years and then moved back to Halstad where he was hired by Standard Oil. He worked with Standard Oil for 39 years. He was active in the community, serving in many roles for the American Legion, City Council, Co-chair of the Halstad 100th Anniversary Celebration, Halstad Lutheran Church Council and served as a volunteer firefighter for 32 years.

He is survived by his wife, Cleona, Candy (John) Spurzem, Holly Gregory and Heather Wang and 2 grandsons, William Robert Spurzem (San Francisco, CA) and Karl Peter Spurzem (NY, NY)

Passing train causes fire in Glyndon
GLYNDON – A train passing through Clay County caused about 20 miles of grass fires between Glyndon and Hawley Saturday afternoon. Clay County Sgt. Mark Empting said crews were initially called to a report of a fire two miles east of Glyndon around 5:30 p.m.. When they arrived, more calls came in for fires along BNSF railroad tracks throughout the county just off of Highway 10.
