Eugene Francis Garcia, 85 of Lidgerwood, ND passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Restora Hospital, Mesa, AZ. Funeral mass will be Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic, Lidgerwood, ND with Fr. Robert Smith as celebrant and burial at Grand Rapids Cemetery, Grand Rapids, ND. Military honors by: Lidgerwood American Legion Bullis Post #84 & North Dakota Honor Guard. Visitation will be Friday, June 28, 2013 from 4–7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at St. Boniface Catholic Church. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are: Andy Garcia, Peter Garcia, Kevin Oster, Ed Shelleny, Ashley Garcia & Paul Setnes. Honorary pallbearers: Lidgerwood Camera Club.

Eugene Francis Garcia was born on November 6, 1927 in Minneapolis, MN the son of Henry & Emily (Shelleny) Garcia. He attended St. Boniface School, Lidgerwood Public School, St. Thomas Academy, St. Paul, MN & South High School, Minneapolis, MN. He received a war diploma from South High School after he served in the Navy in 1944. He graduated from NATIC at Memphis, TN as an Aircrew Radioman/Gunner. He was discharged from the Navy in 1946 and returned to Lidgerwood in 1947.

Jacquelyn Johanson
Jacquelyn Johanson, 86, formerly of Clarissa passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2013 at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, North Dakota. The funeral for Jacie will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Clarissa. Burial will be held at Zion Cemetery in Clarissa.

Jacie was born April 13, 1927 in Lidgerwood, North Dakota to Jacob & Florence (Lueck) Roth. She graduated in 1945 from Wahpeton High School and from there went on to Sherwood Music School in Chicago, Illinois. She received her BME degree with a major in music education in 1948 and it was here that she met William Johanson. They were married on December 28, 1948 in Wahpeton, North Dakota. She taught in Cicero, Illinois, and after William graduated from Sherwood Music School, they moved to St. John, North Dakota and began their teaching careers as a couple. Their careers took them to Towner, North Dakota, and Lake Benton and Alberta in Minnesota finally settling in Clarissa in 1961, the place that they would call their home. Jacie continued teaching in Clarissa, Long Prairie and Eagle Bend. She retired in 1991 after 27 years of teaching in the area. After retiring, Jacie enjoyed traveling with friends and family, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, playing her violin at all types of events, and spending time at their cabin on Otter Tail Lake. She was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran and later Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, and was also a member of the National, Minnesota and Clarissa Education Associations.

Lester Stern
Lester Stern, the loving husband of Patricia, and children, David and Rebecca, passed away peacefully after a brief illness in Fargo on Friday, June 14.

Lester was born on July 29, 1926 in Wahpeton to Hugo and Martha Stern. He graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1944. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He received an associate degree in business from the North Dakota State School of Science in 1948 and then attended the University of Minnesota. He married Patricia née Koenig of Breckenridge, Minnesota in 1965.

Gail John Gabel
Gail John Gabel, 75, Hankinson, ND died Tuesday, June 11, 2013 surrounded by family at the VA Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

Gail was born December 28, 1937 in Max, ND to Elmer and Magdalene (Krebsbach) Gabel. His family moved to Hankinson, ND when he was 5 years old. He received all of his education through St. Frances Academy in Hankinson and graduated high school in 1956. After graduation, Gail entered the Army and served two years. He was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany for nearly 12 months. Upon discharge, Gail worked in construction and on the railroad for a short time before beginning his trade as a brick mason. He was a proud member of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Union and was recognized as a 50-year member on November 14, 2012. Gail took great pride in his masonry skill and was widely recognized in the area for his craftsmanship.
