Patricia "Pat" Knutson Hogue
Pat, 84, formerly of Linton and Fargo, passed away on February 19th, 2014, at the Watercrest Nursing Home of Miami, Florida. Pat was born in 1929 in Pollock, S.D., to Ed and Anna Knutson.

After graduating from college, she began teaching in Great Falls, MT, and married the love-of-her-life, the late RR (Buster) Hogue. Together they raised six children and shared married life for sixty-plus years. Buster passed away in 2009.

Gladys Haaland Peacock
Gladys A. Peacock, 95, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at the Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Bottolfson Chapel at Eventide. Gladys was born to Axel (Fred) and Martha (Edwards) in Traill County ND. She attended the Herberg School and Dakota Business College. She was united in marriage to Eugene Haaland in 1943 in Moorhead. They moved to Albany, Oregon in 1950 where Gladys lived until 2002 when she moved to Linden Tree Circle, Eventide. Gene died in 1975. She married Theodore Peacock in 1979 and he died in 2002. She is survived by step daughter-in-law, Linda Peacock, step granddaughter, Heather (Chris) Swanson and step granddaughter, Paige Swanson all of Salem, OR, nieces, Phyllis (Nick) Smilonich and Jeanne (Humberto) Rodriguez both of Moorhead, MN, nephews, Bryce (Daria) Anderson of Perham, MN and Stephen (Mary) Anderson of Barnesville, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, step son, Douglas Peacock and sister, Alice (Jalmer) Anderson. A burial service was held March 7, 2014.

Memorials preferred to Eventide’s Chaplaincy Endowment Fund or the Worship and Music Fund at Faith Lutheran Church, Albany, Oregon.

Helen Halvorson Hjermstad
Helen Halvorson Hjermstad, 80, passed away on March 17, 2014, at Park Ridge Nursing Center in Jacksonville, FL.

Helen was born to Herbert and Alice Jystad Halvorson in Galesburg ND, baptized and confirmed in Stordahl Lutheran Church, graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School (Fargo ND) in 1951, and went on to earn a BA in Education from Augsburg College (Minneapolis MN) in 1955.

Arthur Roy Bratland
Arthur was born on December 15, 1930 in rural Ransom County, North Dakota, the son of Arthur R. Bratland, Sr. and Emma K. (Jensen) Bratland.

He attended grade school in Hanson Township country school and graduated from Verona High School in 1949. After high school graduation, he and his classmate Eugene Mairose enrolled in Gale Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota to become railroad agents and telegraph operators. After graduation, he went to work fro Great Northern Railroad in Havre, Montana in 1950.

Jim “Fang” Maroney
Jim “Fang” Maroney, 59, Milwaukee, WI, left this earth on March 23, 2014 in Madisonville, TN on route to an event in New Smyrna, FL. Jim was born November 24, 1954, a native of Casselton, ND to Maury and Myrtle Maroney. As a toddler, growing up in Casselton, Jim was seen always with an airplane in his hands and grew proficient at flying RC aircraft. Later in life, Jim and his dad won top honors at the RC Top Gun “invitation only” competition. Jim went to Casselton High School and was a graduate of West Fargo High School. He was never at loss for a good laugh or a clever practical joke.

Jim received his degree in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering from the University of California- Fresno prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corp. He is survived by his wife, Susan. After meeting in California during his tour of duty at El Toro Marine Corp Air Station, they married in 1993 and made their home(s) first in Fargo, ND and Washington State and then in Wisconsin.

Stacy M. Engel
Stacy Maria Engel, 35, Hillsboro, ND passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Hillsboro Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 24, 1978 to Ralph and Charlotte (Thompson) Engel in Hillsboro where she grew up and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1996. Following graduation she attended Mayville State College. After two years of attendance, Stacy’s lifelong journey began. She was diagnosed with an extremely rare and degenerative disease that she fought courageously, with her devoted family by her side, until the end.

Despite the many difficulties she faced, she met them with grace, and maintained a positive attitude through everything. She never let her disease get her down and through her faith, managed to take great joy out of life. Stacy was an avid sports fan, spending countless hours watching football and golf. The Denver Broncos, Notre Dame, and NDSU, were some of her favorite teams. She also cherished the time she spent with her family at the lakes and at the farm, particularly during harvest season.

Halgrimson: NDSU archives take another trip
It isn’t easy to find the new location of the North Dakota State University Archives. Stashed out in the old Knox Lumber Co. warehouse at 3551 7th Ave. N., it’s the last right turn before Interstate 29 on Seventh Avenue. The NDSU Archives are the historical records of the university going back to its founding. The collection includes the archives for the Institute for Regional Studies.
