Opal Ableidinger, age 96, of Kensal, ND, died Monday, October 28, 2013, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington, ND.

Born September 1, 1917, in McKinnon Township, Opal was the first child of Joe and Merle (Evans) Lipetzky. She graduated from Kensal High School in 1934. After receiving a teacher’s certificate from Valley City Teachers College, Opal taught school at Newport, WA, and at McHenry, Bordulac, and Kensal, ND, until her retirement in 1973.

John Elroy Schaumburg of Mahnomen, MN, passed away Sat., Oct. 26, 2013, at the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley, MN.

John was born on Nov. 20, 1918, on the family farm in Chief Township, Mahnomen Cty, to Ralph and Minna (Thram) Schaumburg. On Nov. 20, 1946, John married Dorothy Crandall at the Congregational Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Over the years they were blessed with seven children.

Mundwiler Funeral Home announces the death of Jennifer Schedin, age 40 of Fargo, ND. Jennifer died October 21, 2013, at her parent’s home in Ashby, MN following a battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 26th at 11:00 a.m. at Siloah Lutheran Church in rural Graceville. Rev. John Ragan will officiate. Visitation will be in the Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home in Graceville on Friday, beginning at 5 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to the services.

Jennifer Schedin is survived by her two children: Zachary Schedin of Fargo, ND; Kyllea Meier of Verona, ND; her parents: Gary and Gloria Schedin of Ashby, MN; one brother, Steven Schedin of Kindred, ND; one sister, Sandra Schedin of Fargo, ND; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Schumm of Elk River, MN; numerous aunts and uncles as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Maxine D. Gronvold, 82, Halstad, MN, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at her residence after a short battle with lung cancer surrounded by her family.

Maxine Doris (Peterson) Gronvold was born on Feb. 14, 1931, in Hadler, MN, the daughter of George and Emily (Norman) Peterson. She attended Simonson grade school, followed by Heiberg grade school and Twin Valley (MN) High School. On Feb. 19, 1949, she was united in marriage to Vernon Gronvold of Ada, MN. They made their home in Sabin, MN from 1950 to 1963, before moving to Halstad. They had 6 children.

Lillian May Paulson
Lillian May Paulson, age 96, resident of McVille, ND passed away Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Nelson County Health System – Care Center in McVille.

Lillian was born May 10, 1917 on the family farm to Guy O. and Maria (Lundsten) Trostad. She grew up and attended the Olson country school in Griggs County, graduating from Cooperstown High School in 1936. Lillian worked at the hotel and café in McVille where she met her future husband Walter. On April 13, 1940 she married Walter Paulson at the Tufteland parsonage. The couple lived near the family farm before moving to Sharon, ND, Aneta, ND and settling in Kloten, ND. Lillian was the postmaster in Kloten for 20 years, retiring in 1985. In 1997 she moved into McVille. She moved into the Care Center in 2007.

Harlan M Scheibe
Harlan Mark Scheibe, 69, Fargo, North Dakota, died on October 17, 2013, at his home with his wife and daughters at his side. He died from the effects of a rare and aggressive cancer associated with exposure to Agent Orange when he served in South Vietnam.

Harlan was born on October 30, 1943, in Huron, South Dakota, to Milburn (Mel) and Beryl (Jackie) (Anderson) Scheibe. He was proud to have shared his birthday with his grandpa Ole Scheibe. He was raised and attended school grades 1-12 in Wolsey, South Dakota. He was a fairly good basketball player in high school once scoring 38 points in a game.

Bernard Gulbran Hilde
Bernard Gulbran Hilde, 69, of Eagle, ID died under hospice care at his home on October 16, 2013. Bernie was born July 6, 1944 into a loving farm family in the Red River Valley of Minnesota. He attended school in Borup, Minnesota. He came away with great memories of old bachelor uncles, wonderful cousins, good country cooking and a dad who was hoping that tractors wouldn’t catch on and horses would continue to be the answer.

He joined the Navy on the buddy plan right after high school graduation along with 90% (4) of his male classmates and 1 friend from Felton. Bernie spent some tough duty in Pearl Harbor where he learned that winter is not necessarily cold! He served on the USS Chipola in Vietnam and continued to stay in touch with many of his shipmates.

Robert "Bob" Tangen
Robert "Bob" Tangen, 58, of Ulen, MN, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013 in the Twin Valley Living Center under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Robert F. Tangen was born January 19, 1955 the son of Fritz and Marie (Larson) Tangen in Detroit Lakes, MN. He was raised in Ulen and baptized and confirmed his faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Bob attended school and graduated from Ulen-Hitterdal High School with the class of 1973. Following graduation, Bob served his country as a mechanic in the United States Army from 1973 to 1976. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the Ulen community. On April 21, 1979 Bob was united in marriage to Debra Braseth. The couple made their home in Detroit Lakes where they were both employed at Snappys. Later they returned to Ulen and Bob worked at the Viking Manor Nursing Home. Bob continued living in Ulen but began a 15 year stretch working as a Processing Tech for American Crystal in Moorhead. Due to his failing health, Bob was forced into an early retirement. He was able to live in his own home until last week when he moved to the Twin Valley Living Center.

Charlie Steven Johnson Boyum
Baby Charlie Steven Johnson Boyum was born and died October 14, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. For the short time he was with us, we all loved him very much.

Charlie is survived by his parents, Shea and Geriley Boyum, Moorhead, MN; grandparents, Steven and Sandy Barbot, and Terrance and Dianne Boyum, Mentor, MN; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Machelle Nancy Whaley, 49, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Sanford Health, Fargo ND, surrounded by her family.

Machelle was born September 23, 1964 to Bob and Nancy (Kronbeck) Whaley in Laverne MN. For the past 27 years, Machelle was a resident of Lakes Homes in Detroit Lakes, where she received wonderful, compassionate care. During those years, Machelle worked for the Developmental Activity Center (D.A.C) and was very proud of her job. She was an excellent worker and received Employee of the Month recognition several times. Machelle was very dedicated to her job and would always rather work than go on vacation.
