Funeral Mass for Florence Margaret Deal, age 97, of Wheaton, Minnesota will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Fr. Joe Vandeberg, Fr. Stanley Wieser and Fr. Mike VanSloun Celebrants. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton. Visitation will be held Friday, January 24th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service at the Ranney-Bainbridge Funeral Home in Wheaton. Visitation will continue Saturday morning one hour prior to service time at the church. The Ranney-Bainbridge Funeral Home of Wheaton, Minnesota is in charge of arrangements.

Florence Margaret Marcus was born June 3, 1916 in Jewell, Iowa to Louise Olive Hanson and Daniel Otto Marcus. Her grandparents, the Hannsons and the Marcusons had immigrated to Iowa from Eidsvag, Norway. When arriving in the United States, the family shortened the names to Hanson and Marcus. At the age of nine, she and her family moved to a farm in the Dumont, Minnesota area.

Mildred Merriman, 91, Mitchell, died Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be Friday, January 24, 2014, 11:00 AM, at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell, SD. Burial will be in Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Mildred died from a series of health problems resulting from a car accident in Kearney, Nebraska in 2010 and a recent pelvic fracture. She moved to Fargo after the car accident in 2010 to be near her daughter, Connie Oberembt and family.

LaVerne Johnson
LaVerne "Johnnie" Johnson, a remarkable woman, passed away on January 4, 2014, at her home in Tucson, Arizona. LaVerne was born in Casselton, North Dakota, on April 1, 1928, to Oscar and Laura Johnson, farmers of Scandinavian descent. In her youth, LaVerne rode her horse, Nipper, bareback, attended barn dances, and as her mother boasted "worked harder on the farm than any hired man."

She attended St. John's School of Nursing, in Fargo, North Dakota. In 1948, while on a nursing practicum in Moose Lake, Minnesota, she met the love of her life, Walter. They married in 1949 and moved to Moorhead, Minnesota. After their children, identical twins, Jean and Jo, and their youngest Janet were born, LaVerne returned to nursing at St. Ansgar Hospital.
