Scott Tangen
Scott Tangen, 28, was taken suddenly and far too soon from his family and friends on January 15, 2014. Scott was surrounded by many, as he drifted off to heaven peacefully at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND. Scott, known by his friends as “Tangen,” was born on November 20, 1985. He graduated from Red River High School in 2004 and received his Associates Degree in Computer Networking from Northland Community and Technical College in East Grand Forks, MN. Scott married the love of his life, Darcie (Eggert), on September 6, 2011 in Las Vegas, NV. This was just one of many trips the two would make during their short time together, each of which packed a lifetime of memories to never forget. Scott most recently worked at Dacotah Paper in Fargo, ND. Scott lived every day to the fullest and was nothing less than the life of the party. It didn’t matter what you were doing, if Scott was there, you were having fun. Some of his favorite things to do included sand volleyball, bowling, rock climbing, golf, attending sporting events, concerts and comedy shows. Scott had a zest for life, and for people. If you were friends with Scott, he was friends with your friends, and your friends’ friends, and their friends too. His energy was infectious and exhilarating. It’s certain that if you ever met Scott, you could never forget him. Scott’s family and friends will relish in the time they had with him and while knowing what they’ve lost, they’ll never forget what they gained from having him as part of their lives. Scott is survived by his wife Darcie, West Fargo; puppy, Jax; mother, Janice Tangen, Grand Forks; grandmother, Jeanne McAlpin, Grand Forks; aunts, Patricia (Arden) Berggren, Grand Forks and Pamila Tangen, Brooklyn Park, MN; mother-in-law, Deborah Eggert, Grafton; father-in-law, Tony Eggert, Richey, MT; brother-in-law, Josh Baker, Grand Forks; cousins, Rachael (Rob) Neil , Georgia, Crystal (Blake) Johnson, Grand Forks, April Thorstad, Bismarck and Jonathan Berggren, Moorhead; extended family, the Gesslers of Grand Forks. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elton and Janis Tangen. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 2:00 PM in Sharon Lutheran Church, 1720 South 20th St., Grand Forks. Visitation will be for two hours before the service in the church. Interment will be in the spring in Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks. An online guest register may be signed at www.amundsonfuner

Emil Nelson, 98, of Edgeley, ND, died Monday, January 13, 2014 at Jamestown, ND.

Emil Tolstrup Nelson was born on January 2, 1916, in Willowbank Township, LaMoure County, North Dakota to Laurtis “L.L.C.” Nelson and Magdalena K. (Jessen) Nelson. He attended country schools and graduated from Edgeley Public School in 1934. Emil attended North Dakota Agricultural College and was a member of Alpha Gamma Ro fraternity. He graduated from Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND. Emil married Marian Donaldson, of Fargo, on September 7, 1940 and they farmed in Willowbank Township, raising three children.

Howard Black
Howard Black, 85, finally got his wish to “go home” surrounded by his family at his north Fargo home Thursday, January 9th 2014.

Howard Earl Black was born June 24th, 1928 to Clifford and Lotty (Bjugstad) Black in the village of Venlo, Ransom County, North Dakota. He went to rural one-room elementary schools, and earned $2 a month for his family by carrying a bucket of water to the school daily, occasionally arriving with the water frozen over. Eventually the family moved to Anselm, and Howard went to high school in Sheldon, ND, where he played basketball, football and baseball for the Sheldon Shadows. He graduated in 1946, and was the valedictorian of his class.

Harvey Johnson
Harvey Johnson was born March 21, 1928, in Hibbing, MN, the youngest child of Carl and Evelyn Karlstrom Johnson. His Depression-era youth was spent exploring the ore mounds and balsam and tamarack forests of the Iron Range. To his widowed mother's credit, Harv never knew his family was poor.

After graduating Hibbing High School in 1946, Harvey spent two years serving "Uncle Sam" in the U. S. Navy, specializing in electronics. Following military discharge, he attended Hibbing Junior College and Purdue University, where he completed a degree in physics in 1952.

Steve Krohn, 68, Wahpeton, ND, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, January 9, 2014 at St. Francis Healthcare Campus, Breckenridge, MN. The Funeral Service will be Monday, 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM Prayer Service also at the church, and one hour before the service on Monday. Steven Denis Krohn was born on June 19, 1945 in Lancaster, WI, to Harold and Helen Krohn. He was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist church in Lancaster. He grew up working on the family dairy farm and attended a one-room country school, Pleasant View Elementary. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1963. Steve enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Stout that fall, where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees in industrial technology.

Richard Charles Blanding was born January 21, 1920 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Henry Dix Blanding Sr. .and Ruth (Eddy) Blanding. Richard, known as “Dick” to his friends and family, became part of the third generation of Blandings in this Becker County town. While growing up, he attended Detroit Lakes schools and was an accomplished athlete, the captain of the 1937 football team, and also earned letters in Basketball and track. Brian Daniel Neugebauer was born Sept. 29, 1951 in Fargo, ND to Halbert and Clara (Titze) Neugebauer. He graduated from Fargo South High School, Concordia College and received his law degree from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. After law school, he served as clerk for Chief Justice Ralph Erickstad with the ND Supreme Court. Brian married Kathy Klippen on June 24, 1978 at Ft. Snelling in Minneapolis, MN. They made their home in West Fargo. He worked for Ohnstad Twichell Law Firm for many years and was currently serving as president. He was the West Fargo City Attorney and also did municipal bond work for many cities in ND and MN.
