DeLaine Tomlin
DeLaine Tomlin, 87, Jamestown, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown where she had resided since May.

DeLaine was born on January 25, 1926 to Sebastian and LuLu (Heasley) Spangler on the family farm southwest of Eldridge. She grew up and received her education in Lenton Township and graduated from Jamestown High School. She attended Valley City State University and Jamestown College and received her teaching certificate. She then taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Sharlow Township. Other early employments included Jamestown Hospital, CH Carpenter Lumber and North Dakota Farmers Union.

Robert Lebrun
Robert Lebrun, 79, of Langdon, ND, passed away Monday, October 14, 2013, at the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital of Langdon, ND.

Robert was born March 26, 1934, in South Olga Township near Milton, ND to Jules and Marie (Pelletier) Lebrun. Robert moved to the Langdon area with his parents in 1937 where he graduated from St. Alphonsus then continued his education at NDSU. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Cox on October 12, 1957 at St. Alphonsus. They farmed near Nekoma and became the loving parents of five children: Carleen, David, Mary Kathleen, Julie, and Janet. Bob and Kathy were very involved in marriage encounter work. Kathy and their daughter, Mary, were both killed in a car accident in 1983. Bob and Frances Feil were united in marriage on July 12, 1985. They made their home in Langdon, and Bob continued to farm in Nekoma.

Willard G. Pechtel, 88, of Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013, in Bethany on 42nd in Fargo.

Willard Gregory Pechtel was born August 17, 1925, the son of Henry and Frieda (Hillesheim) Pechtel, in New Ulm, MN. He attended school in New Ulm and graduated from Mahnomen (MN) High School in 1943. Willard then proudly served in the U.S Army, in the European Theater, during World War II.

Doris P. Penas, age 83, of Carrington, ND, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Doris Pauline Anderson was born March 8, 1930, in Pembina County, ND, the daughter of Clarence A. and Dora (Arason) Anderson. She graduated from Walsh County Agricultural and Training School in 1947. Doris married Lawrence Penas on October 6, 1949 in Crookston, MN. They spent most of their lives in Carrington, ND. Lawrence preceded her in death on July 24, 1979.

The storm was just so sudden, South Dakota cattle rancher Kathy Jobgen remembers. A freezing rain, followed by an avalanche of four feet of snow and winds of 70 miles an hour, hit thousands of cattle still grazing on "summer pastures" at a time when the animals had not yet grown their protective winter coats and were ill prepared for the harsh conditions.

Gerald Wagner
Age 83, of Roseville, MN. Passed away on October 9, 2013. Gerald was born January 13, 1930 in Fredonia, ND. He grew up on a North Dakota farm, was educated in rural ND elementary schools, graduated from Monango High School, received a BS from NDSU, an MS from Colorado State University and a PhD from the University of Minnesota. He and Audrey Newcomb were married June 26, 1955 in Minnewaukan, ND. Gerald taught Vocational Agriculture in Maddock, ND from 1954–1970. The family moved to Roseville, MN in 1970. He worked for the U of M Extension Service from 1970 to 1998 and retired as Associate Professor Emeritus. He traveled extensively, conducted numerous dairy and beef tours in the US, led 17 agricultural tours to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, and led 8 tours to Europe. Gerald supervised the FFA Children’s Barnyard at the MN State Fair for many years. Gerald was a longtime member of Roseville Lutheran Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1958, and a member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine for several years. He was Master of Evergreen Masonic Lodge, Minnewauken, ND 1967 and Master of Tusler Summit Lodge, Roseville MN 1985. He had a great love of sports, and especially loved the Gophers, holding season tickets until he was no longer physically able to attend. Survivors include his wife, Audrey; children, Jim (Sally), Mary Wagner (Dan Crouch), Kathy (Paul) Thiegs, and Ann (David) Wasson; 16 grandchildren; siblings, Neil (Lonnie), Jean (Jim) Key, Fred (Marcia) and Carol (Lee) DeForest. Preceded in death by siblings, Duane and little sister, Mary Ann. Visitation 4-7PM Tuesday, October 15 with a Masonic Service at 7PM at HOLCOMB-HENRY-BOOM-PURCELL, 515 Hwy 96 W. at Mackubin, Shoreview (651.482.7606). Funeral service 12 Noon Wednesday, October 16 (visitation begins at 11AM) at ROSEVILLE LUTHERAN, 1215 Roselawn Ave., Roseville, MN. Interment Roselawn Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the church or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Eugene (Gene) David Dooley
Eugene (Gene) David Dooley, 83, of Wheatland, ND, died peacefully on Thursday, October, 10, 2013, at Bethany Homes, Fargo, after a courageous fight with a terminal illness.

Gene was born December 17, 1929, near Windsor, ND, to Frank and Julia (Kensok) Dooley. He attended grade school in Windsor, 8th grade at the Gill School near Wheatland and High School in Casselton, ND. From 1950-52, he served in the US Air Force during the time of the Korean War. He attended Dakota Business College in Fargo. He farmed with his Dad and brother, Jim, worked at Peterson’s Grocery Store, was a mail carrier for the US Postal Office in Fargo, and worked for Doughboy Feed in Casselton and the Agronomy Seed Farms in Fargo during the winter months.

John "Jack" Anderson
John "Jack" Anderson, 86, Fargo, ND, formerly Wahpeton, ND, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 at the VA Medical Center, Fargo. The Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton. Visitation will be Tuesday, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, from 5 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM Prayer Vigil, also visitation will be one hour before the service at the church with a Knights of Columbus rosary said at 9:30 AM on Wednesday. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Wahpeton.

Jack was born November 17, 1926, at Wahpeton, ND, the son of Elmer A. and Anna E. (McInnis) Anderson. He attended schools in Wahpeton, graduating from Wahpeton High School in 1944. He served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946 where he served on the USS California and USS Cleveland in Okinawa and the Philippines. After his honorable discharge he returned to the area where he married Mary Ann Althoff on May 1, 1950 at St. Phillips Catholic Church, Hankinson, ND. The couple lived in Wahpeton where they raised their family. Jack worked at Lillegards Chevrolet for several years and for 22 years at Globe Gazette in Wahpeton before working for 3 M in Wahpeton, where he retired from.

Hans Theodore Aakre, Jr.
Hans Theodore Aakre, Jr. of Fargo, ND went home with his Heavenly Father after fighting a courageous battle with cancer on October 8, 2013, at home surrounded by family. He was born in Grygla, MN on July 8th, 1936. He went to a one-room schoolhouse in Grygla, MN, and graduated from Goodrich High School. He played football and basketball in high school. He married his soul mate Janice Hanson on the 13th of July, 1957. He has been very active with the Lions Club for the last 40+ years and loved helping with the blind bowling and the All Star basketball every year. He worked with Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops out of Nativity Church. He was a very active member of Nativity. He loved to travel and teach his children and grandchildren how to hunt and fish.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jan, his children, Theodore (Kathy) Aakre, Chaska, MN, Linda (Joe) Mayo, West Fargo, ND, Steve (Patty) Aakre, West Fargo, ND, and Susan (Philip) Korynta, Ardoch, ND. His grandchildren Jessica (Shane) Hayes, Pamela (Ryan) Hansen, Nicole Aakre, Alan Aakre, Beth Aakre, Bryton Korynta, Ruth Ann Aakre, Erin Korynta, Justyn Korynta, Jessica Korynta, Trinity Korynta, Khaleela Korynta, and Danni Korynta. Great-grandchildren Tristan Hayes, Isaac Mayo, Sierra Hansen, Wesley Hansen, Ariella Hayes, and Micah Hansen.

Wilfred “Bud” Wipperling, age 89, of Jamestown, ND, formerly of New Rockford and Carrington, ND, died Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at his home under the care of Jamestown Regional Medical Center Hospice.

Wilfred Wipperling was born on July 2, 1924, the son of Fred and Freida (Thaden) Wipperling on the family farm near Brantford, ND. He attended Columbia Township country school.

Arliene May Mattson, 79 of Lidgerwood, ND, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at St. Catherine’s Living Center, Wahpeton, ND. Funeral mass will be Monday, October 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Lidgerwood with Fr. Robert Smith as celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Lidgerwood. Visitation will be Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 4-6 pm with a prayer service at 6pm all at St. Boniface Church. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are: Cody Mattson, Travis Thomas, Scott Wisted, Todd Mattson, Ryan Grohnke, Eric Grohnke, Marty Swant, Zach Mattson, Connor Mattson & Henry Mattson. Honorary pallbearers are all her friends & relatives. Organist will be Connie Baker with special music by Kathy Skroch.

Arliene May was born May 16, 1934 at Fairmount, ND, the daughter of Arnold & Clara (Crooks) Moeller. She grew up on a farm near Fairmount and in 1941 they moved to Lidgerwood, ND where she attended Lidgerwood Public School. On February 1, 1950 she was united in marriage to Arnold Mattson at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Lidgerwood. Arliene worked several jobs, including Mattson’s Café, Popp Plastic Binding Co., a teacher’s aide at Lidgerwood Public School, Dakota Magic Casino & many years at the Lidgerwood Bakery.
