Marian N. Wegner, 94, Fargo, ND passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Elim Nursing Home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Marian Agnes Tonn, the daughter of August and Minnie (Sommerfeld) Tonn, was born on August 24, 1918 and raised on the family farm four and a half miles southwest of Arthur, ND and graduated from Arthur High School. She attended Moorhead State University for two years. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Arthur.

Mary C. Arvold, 88, Fargo, ND, died Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Bethany Retirement Living on South University in Fargo.

Mary Carolyn Arvold was born in Fargo, on January 9, 1925, into the family of Alfred G. and Mildred Tolles Arvold and brother, A. Mason. The children were baptized at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Whitewater, Wisconsin, their father's hometown.

Roberta (Gregg) Lana
Roberta (Gregg) Lana, 95, of Fargo, died January 25, 2013 in Fargo, North Dakota. She was born March 25, 1917 to Frank and Mary Gregg of Minneapolis, Minn. In her fourth grade the parents moved to Fargo, North Dakota where Roberta attended school at St. Anthony’s, Agassiz and Fargo Central, graduating in 1935.

She attended what was then the AC for one year and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. The following year she transferred to the University of Minnesota where she obtained a degree in English and Journalism. The family moved to St. Paul the next year. She taught for two years at Plummer and Canby, Minn. On July 11, 1942 she married Edward P. Lana of Duluth and St. Paul. They lived at Ames, Iowa for 9 years. In 1956 they returned to Fargo. They remained married until his death in 2000.

A year ago, my mother had a heart attack. She came out of it fairly well, but still can’t do much around the house. Then, last month my dad had a stroke. I’m an only child and feel overwhelmed with all of this.

Gladys Tilleraas, age 89, of Mahnomen, MN died Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.

Gladys Lorraine Slette, the daughter of Oscar and Alvina (Goodrich) Slette, was born on June 24, 1923. She graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1941. Gladys attended business school in Fargo and worked positions in Fargo area as well as in Mahnomen. On August 19, 1945 Gladys was united in marriage to Clayton Tilleraas and they made their home in Mahnomen, Minnesota. She worked for Mahnomen County, operated a ceramic shop, and helped at local flower shops for many years. After Clayton's death in 1994, Gladys remained in her home until 2008, when she moved to the Pioneer House in Fargo. She recently returned to Mahnomen to make her home.

Lenore Grann, of Perth, North Dakota, died peacefully on January 17, 2013 at the Villa Maria nursing home in Fargo, ND at the age of 88.

Lenore Olga Eicher was born on July 15, 1924 at her family home in St. Michael, Minnesota. She was the youngest girl in a family of twelve. She enjoyed her St. Michael upbringing and maintained loving ties with her siblings throughout her life. After graduating from Buffalo High School, Lenore, with help from her sister Alma, attended Miss Woods Teachers School. Her first job as a grade school teacher was in Morgan, Minnesota, and after two years, accepted a teaching position at Forest Lake. She was a natural at teaching and absolutely loved her first graders. Lenore made many friends, and would take summer vacations with them throughout the United States and Canada.

With the flu outbreak, the nursing home where my mother lives has isolated residents and is not allowing visitors. Marie says Mom is very upset. Mom understands when Marie tells her on the phone why she can’t visit, but then Mom quickly forgets and calls wondering why my Marie’s not there. What can we do to make Mom feel better?

Ferne T. Schill, age 92, of Hillsboro, ND, formerly of Lakota, ND, passed away on Thursday, January 17 2013 at Sanford Hillsboro Nursing Home.

Ferne was born June 22, 1920 in Milton, ND to Donald M. and Martha A. (McKay) McLeod. Ferne graduated from Mayville State Teachers College in 1942 and subsequently taught in several rural schools in Northeastern North Dakota. She married Elmer Schill on August 2, 1947 in Milton. After living in Clyde and Easby, ND, they moved to Lakota in 1952. Elmer passed away April 7, 1990. Ferne continued to live in Lakota until moving to Breckenridge, MN in 2002 and then to Hillsboro in 2007. Ferne was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lakota. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved spending her time playing cards, gardening, and attending her grandchildren's sporting events.
