Virginia Louise Stach was born September 16, 1929 on the farm near Wolverton, MN to Max and Anna (Swenson) Stach. At age 6, her family relocated to a farm near Callaway, MN. Virginia attended country school in Callaway Township through the 8th grade. She worked her way through high school by waitressing at the Graystone Hotel, and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1949. On October 31, 1949, Virginia was united in marriage to Sherman Weigel at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Callaway. They resided near Callaway and started their family. They lived briefly in the Twin Cities and Richwood, MN before moving in 1961 to their current home, her childhood farm.

James Riley Grossnickle was born Jan. 28, 1949 at Fargo, ND to John and Alma (West) Grossnickle. He grew up in Page, ND. The family moved to West Fargo when he was in elementary school. Jim graduated from West Fargo High School in 1967 and served in the US Marines. He married Deb Sifritt on April 29, 1972 in Fargo. Myrtle Irene Carlson was born October 28, 1914 on the family farm of Frank and Sophie (Sorby) Carlson, Hastings, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at Spring Creek Lutheran Church. Myrtle attended and was a graduate of Hastings High School. As a young lady, she moved to Fargo, ND where she did housekeeping, prepared meals and nannied. She also worked at the County Hospital. Later, she moved to Sioux City, IA, continuing to work in housekeeping.
On November 16, 1942, she married Harold J. TenPas. They farmed in the Litchville area until his death in 1963. She continued living on the farm.

Orland K. Engebretson, 81, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Ecumen –Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
Orland was born on March 20, 1932, the son of Ener and Anna (Huseby) Engebretson in Scambler Township, rural Otter Tail County, Minnesota. Upon his return from the Korean War, Orland began his education at NDSU and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. Orland and Marlys moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he work for the city of Milwaukee. After two years, they moved to Detroit Lakes and he worked for Harvey W. Nelson Construction in Lake Park for nine years. Orland and Marlys then moved to Moorhead, where he went to work for Abbott/Arne/Schwindt Incorporated for thirty-five years, retiring in 2002. After his retirement, they made their home in Detroit Lakes.

Marilyn J. Baker, 76, known as Mari, passed away on Monday evening , April 15, 2013. Through Gods Grace, Mari was granted her wish to take life’s next step from the peace of her own home. Mari was above all a true Lady. Born into a modest but very Christian home in north Fargo, ND on June 14, 1936, she had a childhood led by a strong , close family. Dad and Mom, Herold and Madeline Brunsvold saw to it that Mari and her two sisters, Barbara ( Mrs C. T. Juven of Fargo) and older sister Joanne (Mrs Telford Wollan, deceased) were taught the right way to live. She had many, many childhood friends that continued to be friends her entire life.
Mari attended Fargo Central High School class of 1954 marrying her High School sweetheart and prom date, Dean Baker on July 14, 1956 to enjoy a wonderful 56 year marriage. Prior to being married, Mari attended ND State College in Fargo becoming a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Mari joined her US Air Force husband and became a loyal and active Air Force wife. Always a Lady, Mari stated her goal in life was to be a wife, homemaker and mother. This goal was stated clearly and often. Raising two children; daughter Leslie Saufferer, Minnetonka, MN and son Karl Baker, Phoenix, Az, she maintained a home full of love and Christian example. Acting as the family anchor while husband Dean was on frequent Military assignments away from home, Mari met the challenges of a military family living in several locations both in the US and overseas. As a military family, Mari’s family pledged love and support to each other. This was always to be the family’s way of life which continues until this very day. One of the greatest joys for Mari was becoming a grandmother. Grandson Matthew Benjamin Baker Saufferer fulfilled that dream.

Neil was born August 31, 1935 in Grafton to Alfred and Tena (Gjevre) Monsebroten. He attended school in Grafton until 1952 when at the age of 15, he took over the family farm upon the death of his father.
