Daniel “Doc” Oien Sr.
Daniel “Doc” Oien Sr., 89, of Binford, ND, died Thursday, March 14, 2013 surrounded by his family at Nelson County Health System-Care Center in McVille, ND.

Daniel was born September 26, 1923 near Binford, ND to Fredrick and Olive (Gilbertson) Oien. He graduated from Binford Public School. He married Ione Leean on December 10, 1948 at the Bethany Church parsonage. Doc was a life long farmer. He also served on the Bethany Free Lutheran Church Board. Doc loved horses, cows and dogs. He sang for many funerals and weddings.

GRAND FORKS – By completing a late rally in regulation, Hillsboro-Central Valley looked like it would have a leg up in overtime. The momentum, though, never showed up in the extra session. Thompson outscored the Burros 9-1 in the four-minute overtime, as the Tommies knocked off Hillsboro-Central Valley 58-50 on Thursday night in the North Dakota Region 2 girls basketball championship at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.

Merlin Melby
Merlin Melby, 81, died on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family under the care of hospice.

Merlin John Melby was born on April 21, 1931 to Hilma (Johnson) and Clarence Melby near Canby, MN. He grew up and attended school in Canby, he continued his education at St. Olaf College graduating in 1955. Merlin had a calling into the ministry and attended Luther Seminary graduating in 1959, the same year he married Marlys Anderson of Dwight, ND.

Ray A. Goehring
Ray A. Goehring, age 72, passed away March 3, 2013 in his home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

Ray A. Goehring, son of Francis and Ruth (Ames) Goehring was born July 10, 1940 in Marion, North Dakota. He grew up and attended school in Dickey, North Dakota. In September of 1957, Ray entered the U.S. Navy and served his country until July of 1961. After his discharge, he returned to North Dakota and worked as an electrician in LaMoure. In 1964, he moved to Fargo and became employed with Border States Electric. Ray was united in marriage to Myra Baumgartner on February 27, 1965 in LaMoure. Throughout the years, they made their home in Fargo, Bismarck, and Grand Forks, North Dakota along with Phoenix Arizona. Ray retired in 1999 after 35 years of employment with Border States Electric, and he and Myra moved to Mesquite, Nevada. Myra passed away on August 11, 2008. After her death, Ray briefly returned to North Dakota before settling in Lake Havasu, Arizona.
