She was born November 22, 1991 in Fargo to Morrie and Leanne (Nygard) Kittelson. She attended and graduated from Moorhead High School in 2010. After school, Breanna started working at Heartland Industries in Moorhead. She also worked for Second Time Around Thrift Store in Moorhead. Breanna was also a bell ringer for the Salvation Army and was very popular with many people; she earned the highest amount of donations in one day. Breanna loved spending time with her family, especially her cousins. She was very close to her “Special brothers,” Bryan and Dylan. Breanna loved music and loved DVDs. She had a large pen collection and loved finding new pens to add to her collection. She also loved her cat, Paul Simon. Breanna was also involved in the Special Olympics.

Joan Schatzke
Joan Schatzke, 66, Chaffee, ND died on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013 surrounded by her loving family at her daughter’s home near Casselton, ND.

Joan Elizabeth Pietsch was born on April 30, 1947 to Edwin and Marjorie (Collins) Pietsch in Fargo, ND. She attended school at Everest District 90 and in Casselton. After graduating from Chaffee High School, she attended Jamestown College and graduated from Valley City State College with a teaching degree. On August 17, 1969, Joan was united in marriage to Keith Schatzke at St. Peter Lutheran Church where she was a life time member. She taught school at Chaffee until the school closed in 1994 and then taught at Central Cass in Casselton. She retired after 31 years of teaching and was known to many of her students as “mother superior.”

RoseMarie Wittmer, 86, of Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.

RoseMarie Hemmelgarn, the daughter of Art and Kathryn (Walz) Hemmelgarn, was born in Perham, MN, on July 12, 1927. She grew up and received her education in Perham, where she graduated from high school in 1945. While in high school, she worked in a local bakery. As a young lady, she moved to Jamestown, ND, to work for Northwestern Bell. While working for the telephone company, she met Herbert Wittmer.

Luella Matzke
Luella Matzke, 92, of Marion, ND, died Sunday, November 10, 2013 at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, ND.

Luella was born on October 14, 1921, on a farm near Milbank, SD, the middle of three children to William and Elizabeth (Moser) Robel. She grew up on the family farm and, at the age of 16, moved to live with the John Trapp family near Marion, ND to care for a disabled cousin. Luella graduated from Marion High School and then worked for the Marion Hospital. On June 16, 1942, she married LeRoy Matzke in Marion and they settled on a farm near Marion and raised six children. In 1962, the family moved to Marion where Luella and LeRoy were the custodians of the Marion Public School for the next 19 years. LeRoy died in July 2003 and Luella continued to live in Marion, walking everyday with her friends. She moved to St. Rose Care Center in May 2013

Bryan, 64, died November 6, 2013 in Fargo, ND. He was born on October 4, 1949 in Fargo, where he lived his entire life. For many years he worked at Bonanza Steak House, where he made many friends. Bryan was active in many activities at Olivet Lutheran Church. Bryan's gregarious nature and good humor were an inspiration to all.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Monte and Linda Aaker of St. Paul, Minnesota; his niece, Elizabeth of Worcester, MA; and nephew, Michael of St. Paul.

The funeral service for Norman Erber, 74, Oriska, ND will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley City, ND. Rev. Dan Faust will officiate and burial with military honors will be in Hillside Cemetery, Valley City. He died at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley on November 3, 2013.

Visitation will be held in the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A prayer service will be held there beginning at 7:00. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Frances I. Bittner
Frances Ilene Klevgaard was born January 20, 1940, in Twin Valley, MN, to George and Signora (Volness) Klevgaard. She was raised in Felton, MN, where she graduated from high school. She later attended Josef's School of Hair Design in Fargo, ND.

Frances married Don Hatfield on January 28, 1961, in Felton, and they lived in Fargo for a time before moving to Moorhead, MN. She worked as a hairdresser and later as a waitress in Fargo.

Margaret E. Medd, 91, of Grand Forks, ND died Saturday, November 2, 2013 in Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks.

Margaret Elaine Hall was born the daughter of Wilbur and Bessie (Williams) Hall on December 23, 1921 in Souris, ND. She graduated from Sherwood, ND High School and attended North Dakota Agricultural College and graduated from Dakota Business College. On August 22, 1943, Margaret married Raymond Charles Medd in Fargo, ND. Margaret and Ray lived in Crawford, NE while Ray was stationed at Fort Robinson. After WWII, they settled in Oakes, ND where they owned the Norway Spur Grain Company. After Ray died in 1968, Margaret returned to school and graduated from NDSU with a degree in early childhood education and special education. Margaret helped hundreds of children during her career in Oakes, Valley City, and Bottineau. She believed that every child deserved the best education possible. For her work, Margaret was named the North Dakota Outstanding Special Educator. In 2008 Margaret moved to Grand Forks to be closer to her family. Margaret was a lifelong member of the P.E.O. She was a member of the United Parish in Bottineau. She enjoyed traveling, her home at Lake Metigoshe and being a grandma and great-grandma.

Eugene A. Rich
MADISON,WI.-Eugene A. Rich, age 92, passed away October 30, 2013, at Oakwood Village University Woods, Madison, WI, surrounded by his children.

Gene was born to Daniel Lee and Clara (Jorstadt) Rich in New Rockford, ND, on November 25, 1920. He grew up and graduated from high school in Hope, ND. He attended Wahpeton State College until enlisting in the US Navy in December 1941. Gene served his country during World War II aboard the USS Nitro and the USS Patoka, Navy tanker ships carrying fuel between Brazil and Trinidad. Following his discharge from the Navy, Gene graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1946. On June 29, 1947, he married Joann Palmer in Halliday, ND. Gene and Joann resided in Bismarck, ND, where Gene was employed as an accountant for the State of North Dakota Unemployment Compensation Division until his appointment as the state bank examiner for North Dakota. In 1966, Gene and Joann moved to Fargo, ND, where Gene was the executive vice -president of the State Bank of Fargo (now Bell State Bank and Trust). He served as chair of the Bank of North Dakota Advisory Board from 1969-1981 and President of the Independent Community Banks of North Dakota in 1979. In 2003, Gene and Joann moved to Madison, WI, to be closer to family. Gene was a very active member of Faith United Methodist Church, Fargo, ND, during his years in Fargo. He was currently a member of Sugar River United Methodist Church, Verona, WI.
