Verna Eckman
Verna Eckman, 85, Moorhead, MN, died on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN.

Verna Basol was born on May 13, 1927, on the family farm near Portland, ND, to John F. and Louise A. (Nelson) Basol. She grew up and attended school there. Verna married Leon Eckman on October 16, 1950, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. They made their home in Moorhead where they raised seven children. Verna worked as a cook at Concordia College for over fifteen years. She had been an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Moorhead, and volunteered at Eventide for many years. She loved baking, cooking, sewing and gardening.

Lorraine Cora (Hellem) Hagen, age 88, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead, Minn.

She was born in Moorhead on November 4, 1924, to Laura (Melhus) and Conrad Hellem, graduating from Moorhead High School in 1942. Lorraine received her nursing degree from St. John’s School of Nursing in Fargo, ND, in 1945 and served in the Cadet Nurse Corps of the US Army. On May 11 of 1946, she married William Hagen of Fargo. After marriage, she worked as a private duty nurse.
