Ione thoroughly enjoyed her work with Dakota Supply Group in Fargo as evidenced by her 41 years with the company. She was very involved with the Women In Construction Association. Ione was an active member of Elim Lutheran Church, Fargo. She loved spending time at the lakes and rummage sales.

Ruth McKay, 72, formerly Jamestown and Bismarck, ND, died Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society in Oakes, ND.

Ruth Ann Bartkowski was born November 5, 1941, in Jamestown, ND, the second of five daughters born to August and Dorcas (Stockeland) Bartkowski. She attended school at Cogswell, ND, and graduated from Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Grand Forks in 1962. Ruth travelled extensively, working as a nurse in New York, Montana, Colorado, Iowa, before meeting her future husband, Leslie McKay, in Bloomfield, IA. The two were married in March 1973 in Lancaster, MO, where they then made their home in Bloomfield then Garner, IA. Les and Ruth moved to North Dakota in 1985, and Ruth worked as a Registered Nurse at the North Dakota State Hospital in Jamestown from 1986 until she retired in 2007. Ruth and Les were active volunteers at the Jamestown nursing homes, and they loved to travel and visited friends and family all over the United States and abroad. When Les died in 2010, Ruth made her home in Bismarck with daughter Emily's family where she was a very special grandma to grandson Flynn, 5.

Sister Mary Palmer was born August 5, 1912, in North Washington, IA. She is one of nine children born to William F. and Mary (Lentz) Palmer. She attended grade school in the Corrine School District No. 23. She graduated from High School at Sacred Heart Academy, Fargo in 1931. Mary Adeline Palmer, as she was known in school, was taught by the Sisters of the Presentation and entered the Presentation Congregation in Fargo in 1929.

Frances Wayne Nelson
Frances Wayne Nelson, age 92, of Fargo, North Dakota, died peacefully on January 20, 2014, due to respiratory complications from pneumonia at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, California.

Born February 7, 1921 to Ida and Ferdinand Wayne in Geneva, Minnesota, Frances was the youngest of 12 siblings. As a child, Frances attended schools in Geneva and Ellendale, Minnesota and later received her three-year RN degree from the Naeve Hospital of Nursing in Albert Lea, Minnesota. She worked as an OR nurse in Albert Lea, St. Peter, and Mankato (MN) and also Fargo, North Dakota. In 1949, Frances married John Nelson of Geneva, Minnesota and then began a new career working in their orthopedic shoe store, which they owned and operated in Fargo for over 25 years before retiring in 1982. Volunteering was also an important part of Frances’ life – she devoted more than 30 years at Merit Care in addition to being the pianist at Bethany Nursing Home Chapel in Fargo. Frances’ talents also included creating beautiful needlepoint works of art depicting not only her Danish heritage but also Norman Rockwell treasures for her family and friends. After her husband passed away in 2006, Frances moved to San Diego, California in 2009 to be nearer her twin children.
