Joan K. Ostlie, age 75, of Moorhead, MN, died Monday, February 24, 2014, in Serenity Hospice and Palliative Care, Sun City West, AZ, after fighting a 28-year battle with cancer.

Joan was born in Carrington, ND, to Earl and Vae (Nelson) Kruschwitz on July 15, 1938. Joan grew up in Valley City and attended Valley City State University, first at the campus school from first grade through high school, and then the University, earning a degree in English and business.

Sylvester Schumacher, 86, Linton, ND, left this earth to join all of the angels in heaven on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Baptist Health Care Center, Bismarck, ND. A celebration of Syl’s life will be held on Friday, March 7, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Linton. The celebration begins with visitation at Myers Funeral Home in Linton from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014 where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before service time on Friday at the church.

Shirley Mae Parkhouse was born on August 1, 1928 in Arthur, ND to James and Vida (Viestenz) Parkhouse. She graduated from high school in Jamestown, ND.

Shirley married Glenn Schlenvogt in Jamestown, ND on August 10, 1947. While he worked for Ottertail Power Company, they lived in Harvey, ND, Devils Lake, ND, Oakes, ND, and Fergus Falls, MN. They retired in 1988.

Gerald Kavanaugh
Gerald Kavanaugh passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on March 1, 2014 while surrounded by his loving and blessed family.

Jerry was born on December 5, 1927 in Fargo to Johanna (Fridgen) and Joseph Kavanaugh. Jerry and his two brothers grew up on North Terrace during the time of the Great Depression. Jerry was a scholar, an altar boy, a fine all-around athlete and an Eagle Scout. After he graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1945, he attended the University of Notre Dame. During this time he enlisted in the Navy, and served honorably for two years aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea. After completing his service, he resumed his studies at Notre Dame. He then attended and graduated from the UND School of Medicine, and completed his medical studies at Northwestern University, graduating in 1954. After starting his medical career in Internal Medicine, he later changed his specialty to Cardiology.
