Hazel Haarstad
Hazel Haarstad died on February 27, 2013 peacefully at her home surrounded by family. Hazel was born March 3, 1934 in Moorhead. She was the daughter of Ovean and Hazel Hite. Hazel was raised in rural Glyndon and attended school at a one-room school (#22 west) and at Averill, graduating from Glyndon High School. During that time she was active in her local 4H.

Hazel married Jim Haarstad on November 9, 1952. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Hazel was active in community activities including serving as president of Moorhead Mrs. Jaycees and teaching Sunday school and bible school at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead. She worked as a paraprofessional for the Harbor School of Moorhead and for the Moorhead School System for 25 years. After she retired she became actively involved in Zion Lutheran Church on Franklin Lake where she spent many Tuesdays working with the quilters. She was also active in PEO and became a recent volunteer with Hospice of Red River Valley. Jim and Hazel spent many wonderful years enjoying their lake homes, first on Little Cormorant Lake and later on Pelican Lake, as well as their condo in Arizona. Hazel and Jim enjoyed their many frequent travels and visiting with family and friends.

Stanley M. Lund
Stanley M. Lund, 94, of Alexandria, MN, formerly of Bowdon, Minot and West Fargo, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 at the Grand Arbor Retirement Home in Alexandria.

Stanley Lund was born June 10, 1918 to Peter and Johanne (Madsen) Lund who came to the United States from Denmark in 1907. Stanley was born on the family farm northeast of Bowdon where he was raised and educated. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bowdon Lutheran Church and his early years were spent helping his parents on the farm and doing odd jobs throughout the Bowdon community.

Diane Betty Gayle (Gangness) Kambeitz unexpectedly departed this world on February 15, 2013 at Bismarck, ND. Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, February 21, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Tim Johnson officiating. Burial will be held at 2:00 pm at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Wednesday, February 20, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm.

Spuds end regular season with loss to top-ranked Pioneers
MOORHEAD – There was some good news in Moorhead’s 6-4 loss to Class 2A’s top-ranked Hill-Murray boys hockey squad Saturday. The Spuds found out they could hang with the cream of the crop. The bad news is the Spuds don’t have a lot of time to make changes with the regular season now finished.

Gary Duggan
Gary Duggan was born December 28, 1938 in Ayr, ND, the son of Floyd and Ella (Schneekloth) Duggan. He was raised in Page, ND and graduated from Page High School in 1958. He married Carol Palmer July 2, 1960 in Page, ND.

Gary attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND and graduated in May 1961 with associates degree in heating and air conditioning. In 1962, he entered the Army and was stationed in Fort Carson, CO and later did his service in Vicenza, Italy. Upon completion of his military career in 1963, they returned back to the West Fargo area.

Dorothy Bjornson
Dorothy Bjornson 88, Binford, N.D., passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the Griggs County Care Center after a long battle with cancer.

Dorothy Mae Biggerstaff was born April 5, 1924, the daughter of Prince and Estella (Sloan) Biggerstaff at their farmhouse in rural Foster County. She was raised and attended grade school in the area, graduating from Glenfield High School with the Class of 1942.
