Pet Care: Dog acts aggressive on leash
Dear Dr. Fox: We have an 18-month-old German shepherd/Lab/Akita mix who we adopted from the Humane Society at 5 months old. She is very smart, and I have trained her to have good manners and do many tricks at our house. My main problem is that she acts aggressive and hostile when she cannot get to another dog when on a leash.

Pet Care: Should cats roam free?
Dear Dr. Fox: I was disappointed in your recent response to G.L. in Washington, D.C., the feral cat colony caretaker. Instead of providing him with a link to Alley Cat Allies (alleycat.org), a nonprofit group dedicated to helping cats, you persisted in providing antiquated arguments for the death of cats. The website has an entire section that would have answered G.L.’s questions much better than you did, which was to advocate he euthanize his cats.

Pet Care: Avoid litter box when expecting
Dear Dr. Fox: I am having an ongoing argument with my husband about cleaning out the litter box, which he is now doing because I am pregnant. We have two adopted cats, and they mess the box quickly.

Pet Care: Feline fixates on food
Dear Dr. Fox: Our 7-year-old Himalayan cat, Toby, is a rescue. He is sweet and lovable, and he gets along famously with our other cat, Eli, an 8-year-old black Persian. They romp and play, and naptime finds them close to each other.

Pet Care: Best way to adopt a dog
Dear Dr. Fox: I find myself in search of a 1- or 2-year-old dog to adopt and bring into my heart. I have always had purebreds, so I thought this would be the time to help. Well, so far it’s for naught. I found a dog on a rescue website and he was a thousand miles away, so I had him driven up, only to find out he had been misrepresented.

Pet Care: Stressed dog can’t relax
Dear Dr. Fox: I have been fostering a 7-year-old female Westie for the past five months. The rescue center told me that a Missouri breeder dropped her off, saying that the dog had no problems, was in good health and had been kept in a pen her whole life.

Pet Care: Allergies cause ulcers
Dear Dr. Fox: I have a 5-year-old yellow tabby who gets rodent ulcers on her upper lip. This occurs every six weeks to three months. She has had them since she was 2 years old. The vet has been giving her laser treatments for the past year. She gets a Depo-Medrol shot. This time she had to take ClindaCure twice a day.

Pet Care: Pets have remote senses
Dear readers: Dogs, cats, humans and other animals sometimes have the ability to engage in remote sensing. Through what I have termed the “empathosphere,” animals are able to sense when a family member has a serious accident or dies before anyone else knows. They show evident distress at the time of the accident or death, which is later confirmed.

Pet Care: When to let go of a pet
Dear Dr. Fox: Your recent column “A Time for Compassion” is one of several I have read recently regarding painless deaths for aged or ill animals. I am beginning to wonder if euthanasia is always humane and would welcome your guidelines.

Pet Care: Fiber overload a problem
Dear Dr. Fox: We have two Boston terriers, Kash and Carrie. About a month ago, Carrie started leaving feces around the house. (The bits are small – about 1 inch in size.) We took Carrie to a vet who prescribed Prion and metronidazole. Neither of those medications helped her. The vet didn’t know what was wrong with her. Her food (Purina Fit & Trim) didn’t change. She is 8 years old.
