Phyllis Zimbelman
Phyllis Zimbelman, 91, of Oakes, ND, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Oakes Community Hospital.

Phyllis Mae Benedix was born November 7, 1922 to Edmund and Mildred (Wilke) Benedix at the farm home of her grandfather, Albert Wilke in Sargent County several miles from Stirum, North Dakota. They moved to a farm near Glover, where she grew up with her sister, Blanche Garland. She attended rural school through the 8th grade, and graduated from Oakes High School in 1941. She married Ephriam “Shorty” Zimbelman on November 22, 1942. They lived on a farm near Fullerton and were blessed with three daughters; Shirley, Rita and Kathy. Phyllis enjoyed the joys of being a farmers wife; working in the fields, gardening, canning and sewing clothing for her family. Phyllis was always active in 4-H, and she was a leader for 20 years. She was very active in her community and her church, the United Church of Christ at Fullerton. She enjoyed helping with all the activites of the Ladies Guild, and everyone looked forward to her delicious sour-cream raison pies.

Gertrude Neys
Gertrude Neys, 95, of Buchanan, ND, died Friday, February 21, 2014 at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown.

Gertrude was born on September 8, 1918, on a farm near Buchanan, ND, the daughter of Sylvester and Helen (Wilma) Blaskowski. She attended the Rudnick country school and Buchanan grade school. Gertrude was active with the St. Margaret’s Alter Society and grew flowers to be used on the altar. She married Louis Neys on November 27, 1946 at the Pingree Parish house. They lived on a farm near Buchanan where she raised six children and was active in the V.F. W. Auxiliary and St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. Louis died on June 27, 1974. Gertrude was a cook for the Buchanan Public School for many years. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lois Carol Riedman
Lois Carol Riedman, 85, passed away peacefully, February 20, 2014, in Fargo, ND, surrounded by her family. Lois was born July 30, 1928 in Marion, ND to Leonard and Elvira (Anderson) Olson and was raised on the family farm north of Litchville, ND. She attended grade school at Plainview, a one-room school situated on the Riedman land. She graduated from Litchville High School in 1947 and went on to attend the New York Hairstyling Academy in Fargo. After graduating, she worked as a hair stylist in Valley City. On January 29, 1956, Lois married Ralph Riedman, her long-time neighbor, and they made their home on the Riedman family farm. Ralph and Lois were parents to four children, Cathy, Connie, Dan, and Greg. Lois loved her role as a farm wife and partnered with Ralph as they raised their children to value the land and country living. Within a 2-mile radius of the farm, they lived amidst a whole community of family who shared day-to-day life and special occasions. Ralph passed away on February 18, 1976 at the age of 54. Lois continued to live on the farm until moving to Valley City in the fall of 1978.

Lois was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Valley City, serving in many ways through her Circle and involvement with WELCA. She also enjoyed being a member of the Skandia Homemakers Club and the opportunity to get together with her neighbors once a month.
