James W Falck
Jim Falck was surrounded by his family when he died at his home in Beverly, MA, October, 5, 2013 after a brief illness. Jim, 84, was a lifelong artist, architect, landscape architect, and friend to many. Jim was born December 24, 1928, in Edgeley, ND the middle son of Thomas B. and Anne (Heffron) Falck. While Jim was young, the family moved back to the family farm near Buchanan, ND where Jim attended school. Jim attended Jamestown College for one year; then went on to the North Dakota Agricultural College (now NDSU) in Fargo where he was active in the Sigma Chi Fraternity, Blue Key Honor Society, and Bison Brevities. He graduated in 1953 with a degree in architecture. After a tour of duty in the US Air Force as a commissioned officer, Jim moved to Denver, CO to begin a career in architecture which moved him to Houston, Flagstaff, and Phoenix before his return to Denver to work for Victor Hornbein, the most significant architect of the region.

In 1966, Jim relocated to Boston where he worked in the Gropius lead office, the Architects Collaborative in Cambridge, and the Boston Redevelopment Authority. In 1971, he began his 17 year career as the Chief Landscape Architect for the Metropolitan Park System (MDC) in Boston. He retired in 1988 to his home in Beverly, MA where he was able to devote the rest of his life to art. He enrolled at the Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, graduating in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Art. Painting brought Jim his greatest joy – enabling him to explore creativity in all forms.
