We couponers are a passionate bunch of money-saving enthusiasts, and while most of my columns discuss couponing in one form or another, you might be surprised by how many readers don’t shop with coupons.

Coupon Queen: Readers spot more product shrinkage
The topic of product “shrink” – when manufacturers reduce the size of a product while keeping the selling price the same – continues to be a hot one. I’m irked by this trend, but I had no idea how incensed my readers had become with smaller sizes.

Coupon Queen: Who is hurt by coupon misuse?
I’ve tackled the topic of coupon misuse in my column before, and it always seems to generate heated discussion on both the consumer side and the industry side. Here are some recent emails from my inbox...

Coupon Queen: Going ‘clipless’ cuts down on time, work
Dear Jill, I want to save with coupons. I read your column and know that those who coupon are saving a great deal of money. But I can’t shake the idea of how much time it would take me to cut and carry all those coupons around. The idea of it just makes me cringe.

Coupon Queen: Readers respond to non-coupon user
In a recent column, I featured an email from a reader named Brian, who stated that he never used coupons because he “felt cheap” when using them. This column generated a lot of email from coupon fans – and why wouldn’t it? If you’re reading this column, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to infer that you’re interested in saving some money.

Coupon Queen: Whose side am I on?
Last week, I received a pair of interesting emails. As a consumer who finds myself constantly straddling the line between a consumer’s coupon issues and navigating the industry’s practices, I found both of these emails interesting, and I imagine you will too.

Coupon Queen: Reusable bags that have few uses
Paper, plastic or reusable? Reusable shopping bags have exploded in popularity, and many stores offer discounts for using your own bag versus using store-supplied bags.

What do you do when the coupon game changes? For many of us, we keep playing by the new rules, whatever the “new normal” turns out to be.

Coupon Queen: Checkers respond to cashier complaint
I often share emails and notes from readers regarding their shopping experiences. Recently I featured an email from Curtis, a reader who was having trouble with his supermarket’s coupon policy. The store recently removed the policy completely, allowing the cashiers to decide which coupons to accept and which to deny. Curtis felt that cashiers were intentionally denying coupons because they could do “whatever they wanted.” Curtis’ email sure stirred up my inbox! Some cashiers wrote to respond.

Coupon Queen: What’s the deal with daily deal sites?
Q: I would like to know if you ever take part in daily deal websites. Are there any good deals on them? What kinds of things do you buy? I trust your judgment and would like to know how you know if something is a deal worth buying, especially deals for family fun and activities. And, do you ever have trouble redeeming them once you buy them?

Coupon Queen: How to save money buying fresh produce
Q: Can you discuss produce savings in your column? I know sometimes there are coupons for fresh produce, but I’d like to hear your thoughts on how we can save money buying something we all need. Is it worth paying more for organics? Are you only eating canned and frozen things because there are coupons? Let’s talk produce!

Coupon queen: When store employees are clueless on policies
Do you take advantage of price matching when you shop? It’s a great way to streamline your shopping – you can buy at a store that’s perhaps more convenient to you, while enjoying the lower sale price you found elsewhere. At least, that’s how it’s supposed to work. What happens when it doesn’t?

Coupon Queen: The ins and outs of coupon overage
Coupon shoppers love overage. Overage occurs when the dollar value printed on a coupon exceeds the selling price of an item. If I buy a box of pasta that’s on sale for 79 cents, but I have a $1 coupon, I’ve got 21 cents in overage. What happens to that 21 cents?

Coupon Queen: Rebranding the stockpile
‘Stockpiling” is the term couponers have long used for shopping ahead of sales cycles, then storing groceries and supplies until the next sale. It’s a great strategy for shelf-stable, nonperishable or freezer-stable items because prices fluctuate.
