Adeline C. Thorson
Adeline C. Thorson, 98, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks on May 17, 2013. Adeline Corinne Torgerson was born July 3, 1914 to Leif and Helen (Flaat) Torgerson in Thompson, North Dakota, Bentru Township. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith and confirmed at Bygland Lutheran Church, where she was a lifelong member, active in Ladies Aid, Altar Guild, and church Choir. Adeline attended Bygland School and graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High School. After completing two years of teacher's training at Moorhead Normal School, she taught at Bygland "Country School."
On November 16, 1946 she married Harold Thorson in Bygland, MN. They farmed in Bygland Township for over 30 years, where she worked in their home and tended a beautiful yard and large garden. A member of Homemaker's Club, she was known for her pies, cookies, bread, lefse and other Norwegian treats. She always enjoyed a game of Scrabble.

Alfred "Neil" Monsebroten
Alfred "Neil" Monsebroten, age 77 of Grafton, ND, passed away Thurs May 9, 2013, at Sanford Hospital Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.
Neil was born August 31, 1935 in Grafton to Alfred and Tena (Gjevre) Monsebroten. He attended school in Grafton until 1952 when at the age of 15, he took over the family farm upon the death of his father. In 1956 he married Margaret Young of St. Thomas, ND, and they raised their four children on the same farm where he was born and raised.

Maynard "Dusty" Karsten
Maynard "Dusty" Karsten, 68, of Ulen MN died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River.
Maynard Peter “Dusty” Karsten was born May 19, 1944 in Ada, Minnesota the son of F. Peter and Evangeline (Larsen) Karsten. He was raised in Felton and attended school there. As a young man he worked for his Uncle Bill Karsten logging in the Blackduck, Minnesota area. Later he drove truck for Industrial Builders for a few years. On July 11, 1969 Dusty was united in marriage to Eileen Bjerke in Dilworth, Minnesota and after a short time they made their home in Felton, Minnesota. Dusty drove for Cossette Trucking and later for Dittmer Trucking. In the early 1980’s Dusty and Eileen moved their family to Ulen, where they have made their home since. In the early 1990’s, he started working as a mechanic with his father at Pete’s Hi Way 9 Station in Felton. In 1991, Dusty and Eileen purchased the cafe which she operated and in 1996 they purchased the service station which he operated. They operated the businesses together until selling them in 2006. At that time he began working for his son Waylon at ECSI in Pelican Rapids, MN where he operated a plasma welder, a job he truly loved. After Waylon’s death in 2007, Dusty continued working there for a short time before becoming a mechanic for Dunham Gravel where he was employed until last fall. He also did DOT truck inspections for the past several years.

West Fargo - A slight fog calmly creeps over the track at the Red River Valley Speedway as it sits quietly in the rain. It was almost as if the exhaust from races past was unable to let go. Lights point toward an empty track, and speakers aim at empty grandstands.

Elsie Carlson went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Elsie died peacefully with her husband and children at her side.
Elsie was born on Nov 23, 1925 to Tora and Magnus Wrede in Fertile. MN. She attended grade school in Glyndon; her family moved to Valley City where she graduated from Valley City High school in 1944, then on to graduate from Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing. While in Bismarck, she met and fell in love with Levi Carlson, a farmer from Nome, ND. They were married on February 28, 1948 in a blinding blizzard. After retirement, they spent winters in Mesa, Arizona enjoying the warm weather and the company of good friends.

Orville was born on July, 1 1926 on the family farm near Lisbon, ND. He attended country school in Bale Township. He married Alice Burchill on August 20, 1953. They made their home on the family farm where they raised their four daughters. Besides his wife and daughters he loved God and the land he farmed. He served on the Bale Township board for 39 years. In 2010, he and Alice moved to Lisbon but he continued to make frequent visits to the family farm to lend a helping hand.
