Jane Bristol Erlandson
Jane Bristol Erlandson, of Fargo, N.D., died peacefully at the age of 99, at Villa Maria Nursing Home, on March 24, 2014.

Jane was born August 3, 1914, along with her identical twin, to William and Martha Bristol of Fargo. She graduated from Fargo Central High School and N.D.A.C. with honors. While in college, Jane was Most Representative Senior, president of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, 1936 Homecoming Queen, and a Mortar Board member, a senior honor society for women. She was also a member of Senior Division of R.O.T.C., active in Bison Brevities, and voted into Who's Who In American Universities and Colleges. Jane earned a degree in home economics merchandising and education. Following graduation, she worked at deLendrecies Department Store, Dakota Clinic, taught at Valley City, N.D. and managed a lunch room in Detroit, MI.

Nancy Elizabeth (Potts) Cote died peacefully March 19,2014 in Marshalltown, IA. She was born February 16, 1953 in LaMoure, ND, the 9th of 11 children. Her parents were Grover (Budd) and Jane (Skovgaard) Potts. She is survived by her daughter, Jessie Sloane, a grandson, Ethan Sloane, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth (Ellie) Sloane, all of Mansassas, VA. Sisters, Sally Lofthus, Nampa, ID., Pat Burgum, Mobile AL., Mary Charrier, Inver Grove Heights, MN., Fran (Harvey) Trapp, Bismarck, ND., Laura Sunsdahl, Bismarck, ND., brothers, Bobby Potts, Philippines, Bill (Terry) Potts, LaMoure, ND., Martin (Julie) Potts, Gwinner, ND., Richard (Julie) Potts, Neenah, WI., and the extended Skovgaard and Potts families. She was preceded in death by her parents Budd and Jane Potts and one sister, Virginia Evans.

A memorial service will be held in

James Henry Milek was born March 10, 1945 in Jamestown, ND to Samuel and Elizabeth (Aipperspach) Milek. He attended grade school and high school in Jamestown. He trained as a cook at the Job Corps in Bismarck, ND.

Esther Hafner
Esther Hafner, age 97, of Valley City died March 26, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Valley City. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30 AM Monday March 31, 2014 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Valley City with Msgr Dennis Skonseng celebrant. Interment will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery later in the spring.

Esther Marie Hafner was born Oct. 25, 1916 at Sykeston, ND the daughter of Henry and Margaret (Boor) Sondag. She grew up there and attended St. Elizabeth School in Sykeston. On May 19, 1936 she was united in marriage with Frank Hafner. The couple farmed and then lived for a time in California before moving to Valley City in 1955, where they raised their family. Mr. Hafner died in 1974 and Esther continued to make her home in Valley City. She was a church organist for over 50 years and an original board member of the Nearly Nu Store in Valley City. Esther raised a special needs son, Jerome. She lived with her daughter, Madonna Hildebrant at Conde, SD for six years.

FARGO –Elizabeth Karlins went straight from dorms, studying and finals to learning how to drive a war ship. The 26-year-old Fargo North graduate is a Navy lieutenant junior grade serving in the U.S. Navy as part of a crew working aboard one of the country’s multi-mission combat ships, the San Diego-based guided missile destroyer USS Higgins.

William Henry (Bill) Briden, 91, Sabin, MN, died February 2, 2014 as a result of car train accident.

Bill was born on January 19, 1923, in Crookston, MN to J. Elmer and Constance (Evje) Briden. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Crookston. On October 30, 1949, Bill was united in marriage to Gloria Mae Berg in Crookston. Bill and Gloria farmed, raised cattle, and owned and operated Briden Repair and Red River Tandem Co. They attended the Covenant Church in Crookston.
