Ardell C. Wickoren, 76, Wyndmere, ND, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, at Essentia Health, Fargo. The Funeral Service will be Thursday, 2:00 PM, at Wyndmere Lutheran Church, Wyndmere, with Rev. Bob Caranicas officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 PM to 8 PM, with a 7 PM Prayer Service at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, and one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at Freeman Cemetery, rural McLeod. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, is in charge of arrangements.

Ardell Curtis Wickoren was born March 8, 1937 in McLeod, ND, the son of Ingvold and Nellie (Sveum) Wickoren. He was baptized and confirmed in Bethany Lutheran Church, McLeod. He attended school in McLeod. At an early age he took an interest in farming and ranching with his Uncle Nelius Sveum and continued working with Uncle Milard Sveum. He worked for LeRoy and Lila Erickson, Delamere, ND, before moving to South Dakota for five years where he was a feedlot manager. Ardell took much pride in his 36 years with Wil-Rich Manufacturing, Wahpeton, where he was a welder.

Robert "Bob" Berg
Robert "Bob" Berg, 78, of Milnor, ND, passed away April 21, 2013, at Essentia Health, Fargo.

Robert was born October 19, 1934 at Walcott, North Dakota to Joseph and Pearl (Fatland) Berg. He grew up in the rural McLeod and Walcott areas, and attended school in Lisbon. He was united in marriage to June Scheie on December 10, 1954 at Enderlin, North Dakota. They moved to Fargo, where Robert was employed as a cook before moving back to the family ranch. Robert also worked for the Soo Line Railroad in Enderlin before he started ranching on his own around 1962. Together, they raised four daughters on their ranch near Lisbon. After retiring, the couple later moved to Milnor. Robert was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and was a Ransom County Commissioner for eight years. He was also a member of the Sheyenne Valley Grazing Association, the Broken Spur Saddle Club, and he was on the committee for the inaugural North Dakota Centennial Ride. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren.

John O. Sundquist, 89, Valley City, ND, formerly of rural Finley, ND

John Obert Sundquist was born January 20, 1924 near Aneta, ND, the son of Arnold and Inga (Hovde) Sundquist. He grew up on the farm NE of Aneta, attended rural school, and worked as a farmhand. John attended welding school before moving to Seattle, WA where he worked as a ship welder until entering the US Army on December 14, 1944. On November 22, 1946, he was honorably discharged. He returned to the Aneta area and worked for a farmer and later for Pladson Implement of Finley, ND.

Elaine Johnson-Ruhn, 85, passed away Saturday, April 6th 2013 at Parkside Nursing Home, Lisbon, ND. Elaine was born May 9th, 1927 to Hans and Edith (Johnson) Wohler in the rural Milnor area. She attended country school and then Milnor High School.

On July 24th 1943, she was married to Lloyd A. Johnson at Webster, SD. They made their home in rural Milnor. They were blessed with 7 children before moving to a farm site in rural Gwinner in 1954, where they had 3 more children; Larry (Sally) Johnson, Milnor; Donna; Duane (Betty) Johnson, Gwinner; Carolyn (Richard) Jacobson, Lisbon; Kay (Larry) Swanson, Gwinner; Kent (Julie) Johnson, Gwinner; Charlene (Bill) Smith, Forman; Miles (Lannae) Johnson, Gwinner; Allan; and Dale (Joanne) Johnson, Roseville, MN.

Gary A. Lien, 68, of Milnor, ND, passed away March 21, 2013, at Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo, ND, surrounded by family.

Gary was born December 13, 1944 at Breckenridge, Minnesota to Maynard and Gene (Martinson) Lien. He grew up and attended school at Milnor, graduating from Milnor High School with the class of 1962. He was united in marriage to Paulette Tayer on March 30, 1968. Gary lived his entire life in the Milnor area, where he began farming with his parents and had dairy cows. Gary and Paulette made their home southwest of Milnor on Gary's Grandparents farm, Marvin and Svea Lien. Gary enjoyed gardening, playing and watching sports. In his younger days, he was remembered for his left-handed hook shot. Gary loved to hunt and fish with his sons, daughters-in-law, grandkids, nieces and nephews. Not only his children, but he also enjoyed taking his sons' friends hunting and fishing. Music was a big part of Gary's life. He was the bass singer in the Wild Oats Band. He was also in the Air National Guard for six years. Gary was a member of the Milnor American Legion. He served on several different boards; including the Milnor Township, Bison Booster Club, Spirit Corporation and Milnor Grain and Trading. Gary continued to farm and work for the US Postal Service as a mail carrier until retiring from farming in 2008 and the Postal Service in December 2010. In 1999, they moved into Milnor. Gary was a member of the Milnor Lutheran Church.

Leland Johnson
Leland Matthew Johnson, 85, Hillsboro, ND and Mesa, AZ passed away March 7, 2013 in Mesa after a short battle with cancer.

Leland was born January 4, 1928 in Red Wing, MN the son of Fred and Laura Johnson. He attended various schools in ND graduating from Forman High School in 1947. He studied auto mechanics at the State School of Science in Wahpeton. He moved to central North Dakota where he worked on the Garrison Dam. It was during this time that his daughter Patricia was born. They returned to Forman where he operated a Mobil bulk oil gas truck.
