Berniece Glendora Oscarson Braaten of Fargo, formerly of Kindred, passed away on January 14, 2014, surrounded by family. She was born to Oscar & Louise Oscarson on June 7, 1914, at their home near Colfax, ND. She was baptized in Stearns Lutheran Church by Pastor Engebretson June 21, 1914 and confirmed June 2, 1928, in Richland Lutheran Church by Pastor Nelson.

Berniece loved school and attended Richland County schools and graduated from Christine High School with honors. She was trained as a nurse and worked at the Fargo Hospital.

Lucille Nelson
Lucille Marjorie Nelson, 90, of Moorhead, MN, died January 1, 2014, in Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead.

Lucille Marjorie Nelson was born on April 26, 1923, to Arthur and Alice (Erickson) Nelson on the family farm in Eagle Township, Richland County, ND. She graduated in 1941 from Christine High School as valedictorian of her class. She attended Burroughs calculator school and completed comptometer training. She worked in Minneapolis at Powers Department Store until 1949 when she moved to Los Angeles, CA. She was employed at Carnation Milk Company, Cummins Diesel and later at Atlantic Richfield (which was acquired by British Petroleum) in the accounting department, until retiring in 1985. In 2005, she moved back to this area to be near more extended family and friends and lived in an apartment at Eventide. She had been in the nursing home unit at Eventide since March 2010.

John “Jack” K. Vining
John “Jack” K. Vining, 85 of Leonard, ND, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013 at his home.

Jack was born on August 30, 1928 in Fargo, ND to Lenley and Marion (O’Bleness) Vining. He graduated from Chaffee High School and attended Concordia College. Jack served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. On May 11, 1954, he married Eva Hromick in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Jack spent his working years as both a farmer in the Chaffee area and as an aerial crop sprayer.

Jeffrey Dale Torreson
Jeffrey Dale Torreson, 45, Fargo, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Sanford Palliative Care. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 16, 2013, at 1:00 pm at Milnor Lutheran Church, Milnor, ND.

Jeff was born August 21, 1968 in Fargo, to Dale and Luanna (Odegard) Torreson. He grew up and attended school in Milnor, ND. He also attended NDSCS, Wahpeton, NDSU, Fargo and received a degree at Moorhead Technical College, Moorhead, MN. With a passion for computer technology, Jeff held various positions in North Dakota, Minnesota and Montana, before finally settling in Fargo. He was currently employed by IAIA (International Association for Impact Assessment) in Fargo as a Web Developer. He loved his position with IAIA and the opportunites it gave him, not only for technology advances but for its travel. He also was blessed to work with many warm and compassionate souls. Jeff had a passion for photography and was grateful for the opportunity to photograph many beautiful places in Switzerland, Ghana, Mexico, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.

Harley Lyle Hiam, 82, Lisbon, ND, and Apache Junction, AZ, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at Mountain Vista Medical Center, Mesa, AZ. Harley was born on October 3, 1931, in Ransom County, the son of Arthur Hiam and Katherine (Schoeszler) Hiam. Harley graduated from Lisbon High School in 1949 and then continued to farm with his parents.
