Alida L. Hilde, 86, of Eveleth, formerly of Cherry, died, Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Chestnut Grove in Virginia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2014 at Faith United Lutheran Church in Iron. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Faith United Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the funeral services. Burial will take place at a later date in the Forbes Cemetery. Alida Lenore Thorson was born on March 25, 1927 to Christ and Berentine (Marken) Thorson in Fergus Falls, MN. Alida lived in rural Fergus Falls until moving to Pelican Rapids, MN. In 1940, they moved to Ulen, MN. Alida graduated from the Ulen High School in 1945. She attended two years of business school in Moorhead, MN. She then worked at the Hanford Nuclear Plant near Richland, Washington. During this time Alida and her friends enjoyed traveling.

Robert "Bob" Chrissis
Robert "Bob" Chrissis was born on September 11, 1925, to Andrew and Margaret (Erdman) Chrissis. He attended Dilworth, MN, public schools until his senior year, when he enlisted in the US Navy during WWII.

Bob served on the USS Halligan from 1943 until March, 1945. The Halligan was sunk by an enemy mine off the shore of Okinawa leaving over half of his 300 crew members dead, and Bob wounded. Bob received the Purple Heart from his hospital bed in Guam, from Admiral Chester Nimitz, Commander of the Pacific Fleet.
