Evelyn Christine Hilden
Evelyn Christine Hilden was born in Starkweather, North Dakota, on March 18, 1917, and died in Lake Forest, California, at the age of 96, on March 9, 2014, just 9 days before her 97th birthday. She was an adventurous, independent woman who enjoyed the arts, loved to read, and had impeccable taste.

A member of Dazey (North Dakota) High School’s class of 1934, Evelyn later in life claimed the people of Dazey were the friendliest she’d ever met. She went on to earn her teaching degree from Valley City State Normal School (now Valley City State University) in Valley City, North Dakota, and later earned a masters degree from Pepperdine College in Los Angeles, California. Her first teaching job was in Lisbon, North Dakota. Three years later, she answered a call for teachers from the fast growing state of California and went west to seek her fortune there. In 1945, Evelyn took a year off to go to Paris, France, where she taught at an Army base and traveled, returning to California to resume her career. A lover of the arts and travel, the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City and the Hawaiian Islands became two of her favorite vacation destinations. After 39 years of teaching, Evelyn retired to Leisure World/Laguna Woods, California, where she worked at the security gate for 20 years. In 2011, Evelyn moved to Freedom Village in nearby Lake Forest.
