Robert J. “Nooks” Kapaun, 91 of Casselton, ND, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Essentia Health in Fargo.

Robert was born on September 2, 1922 in Casselton to Joseph and Elizabeth (Hager) Kapaun. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Casselton in 1941 and served in the US Navy from 1941-1945 on the USS Phelps Destroyer. He married Lorraine Nelson on January 29, 1943 in Casselton. After his discharge from the military, he worked in the heating and air conditioning business and started Cass County Heating and Air Conditioning which he ran for 45+ years.

Bessie Charlotte Overn Clarens Murray, 104, of West Fargo, ND passed away on Dec 16th, 2013 at Villa Maria in Fargo, ND.

Bessie was born August 7, 1909, to Charles Arnolf and Christine Olivia (Olsen) Overn near Cochrane, Ontario, Canada. When she was a small child, Charles brought Bessie to live with his sister, Mrs. Asora Halvorson on a farm outside of Leal, ND. Bessie was a survivor of the 1918 Flu epidemic. Her favorite memory of growing up on the farm was of her horse, Prince. Bessie went to grade school in rural Leal, ND and later to high school in Valley City, ND.

Harry Wheeler
Harry Wheeler, 91, Wheatland, ND died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center, Arthur, ND.

Harry was born Sept. 28, 1922 at Wheatland, ND to Harvey and Mary (Martyn) Wheeler. He attended school in Ayr and Wheatland. Harry married Denise Rheault on Oct. 11, 1948 at Horace, ND. They made their home on the family farm near Wheatland where he farmed for over 30 years. They moved to Fargo in 1992. She died in 2008. He worked for Luther Ford in Fargo. He later moved to Casselton before entering the Good Samaritan Center in 2010.

John “Jack” K. Vining
John “Jack” K. Vining, 85 of Leonard, ND, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013 at his home.

Jack was born on August 30, 1928 in Fargo, ND to Lenley and Marion (O’Bleness) Vining. He graduated from Chaffee High School and attended Concordia College. Jack served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. On May 11, 1954, he married Eva Hromick in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Jack spent his working years as both a farmer in the Chaffee area and as an aerial crop sprayer.
