Holly Sanders
Holly Sanders, 59 of Fargo, ND, passed away April 20, 2013 at Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND.
Holly Jeanne, daughter of Fay and Irene (Bork) Sanders was born on November 25, 1953 at Oakes, ND. She attended Special Education classes in the Oakes school system from the time she was seven until her eighteenth year. Holly then moved to the Minot Vocational School for two years, beginning in 1971. In 1973, she moved to Fraser Hall (a sheltered workshop) in Fargo, where she worked at the Evaluation and Training (ETC) Center for 8-9 years. Holly moved into her own apartment in Fargo in 1984 and worked in various capacities at Fraser workshop and vocational facilities. In July of 2001, Holly moved into an ISLA apartment through Red River Human Services Foundation. She began employment at the Developmental Work Activity Center (DWAC) and the Olive Garden Restaurant through the support of Friendship, Inc. In December 2007, Holly went to live at an MSLA apartment setting at Friendship.

Patricia Mary Johnson (nee McLennan) passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Acute Care Hospital in Billings, MT; her husband, son Mark and his wife Lorie were at her side. Edward (Ed) John Fortin, 81, Moorhead, passed away May 13, 2013. Ed was born Sept. 25, 1931 to Wilbert and Melenia Fortin of Devils Lake, ND, the fifth of seven children. He graduated from Devils Lake High School, where he played football, basketball, baseball and won a ND state championship in the 440-yard dash. After beginning his college years, Ed took leave to serve in the US Army from 1951-53. On Dec. 15, 1951, Ed married Betty Lindstrom, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fargo, a union that flourished for 61 years. After earning a degree from NDSU in 1956, Ed taught and coached at Graceville (MN) High School from 1956-59. He then accepted a position teaching physical education in Moorhead until he retired in 1987. During this time Ed coached football, basketball and track through each school year. He also taught drivers’ training during the summer months. Ed received his master’s degree in Education from Moorhead State College in 1962. He was awarded a Fulbright teaching exchange and spent the 1962-63 school year in Needham Market, England along with Betty and their growing family of five children. In 1987 Ed took another overseas teaching and coaching assignment for a year at the US Air Base in Hahn, Germany.
Ed loved camping, the outdoors and adventures in general. Two of his favorite destinations were the Falcon Lake, Manitoba campground and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota. He inspired many along life’s journey through his teaching, on athletic fields and courts, as well as on outdoor adventures. His impact will continue to be felt for generations to come.

Franklin E. Jacobson
Franklin E. Jacobson, age 72, of Dilworth, MN, died on May 11, 2013, in his home in Dilworth, MN.
Franklin Eldon Jacobson was born on November 14, 1940, to Alfred and Emma (Sather) Jacobson on the family farm near Clearbrook, MN. He grew up and attended school in Clearbrook. Franklin worked on the family farm until he moved to Moorhead in 1957 and in October, 1961, he began working at Mid-America Steel in Moorhead where he worked for 42 years before retiring in 2003. He married Joan Erickson in April, 1970 and later divorced. Franklin also worked at American Crystal Sugar during the evenings for many years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, dancing and spending time with his family. Franklin was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead and a member of the FM Singles Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Jo Krahn Moritz
Jo Krahn Moritz passed away in her Moorhead home surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley on May 12th, 2013.
Jo was born on July 1st, 1934 to John & Agatha Schatz of Velva, North Dakota. She was the youngest of eight children. After graduating from high school in 1951, Jo met and married Arnold Krahn from Langdon, ND on July 25th, 1952. The two settled in South Moorhead and began their life together starting a family. Together they had four children, Patricia who was stillborn, Timothy, Teri and Thomas. Her husband Arnie passed away in November of 1963. Jo raised their three children as a single mom and after the kids had all graduated from high school she was re-married in June of 1980 to Robert Moritz of Moorhead, Minnesota. Jo and Bob enjoyed spending time at their lake home on Fish Lake during the summers and taking many winter trips to escape the cold weather. Bob was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease in 1996 and passed away in 2000.

Sheila K. Heger, 57, Wahpeton, ND, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013, after a brief illness due to CJD, at St. Francis Healthcare Campus, Breckenridge, MN. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, 10:30 am, at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Dale Lagodinski as celebrant. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5 PM to 8 PM with a 7 PM Prayer Vigil at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton and one hour before the service on Thursday. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Wahpeton. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton is in charge of arrangements.
Sheila was born September 11, 1955 at Breckenridge, MN, the daughter of Arthur and Marlene (Braun) Luick. She grew up on a farm near Fairmount, ND, attending LaMars #1 Country School, and graduating from Rosholt, SD, High School in 1973. She attended NDSSS where she graduated in 1975. Sheila worked for Dr. Helland for several years before she started her employment with NDSSS. She was President's Secretary for Dr. Blikre and Dr. Olson before being involved with NDSCS Alumni Association and Foundation for several years. She recently has worked with the Wahpeton School District. She was united in marriage to Joe Heger on June 14, 1986 at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton. The couple resided in Wahpeton where they raised their three children.
