Gertrude Neys
Gertrude Neys, 95, of Buchanan, ND, died Friday, February 21, 2014 at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown.

Gertrude was born on September 8, 1918, on a farm near Buchanan, ND, the daughter of Sylvester and Helen (Wilma) Blaskowski. She attended the Rudnick country school and Buchanan grade school. Gertrude was active with the St. Margaret’s Alter Society and grew flowers to be used on the altar. She married Louis Neys on November 27, 1946 at the Pingree Parish house. They lived on a farm near Buchanan where she raised six children and was active in the V.F. W. Auxiliary and St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. Louis died on June 27, 1974. Gertrude was a cook for the Buchanan Public School for many years. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Harold L. Newman, 80, Jamestown, ND, died Thursday, February 20, 2014 at his home in Jamestown.

Harold was born August 28, 1933 in Mayville, ND, the son of Albert and Bertha (Gidskemo) Newman. He grew up, attended elementary school and graduated from high school in Mayville. He went to Mayville State College for two years and continued his last two years at Moorhead State University, graduating in 1956. On May 31, 1953 Harold married Mary Harwood in Moorhead.

Ardith Preston
Ardith passed away on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Villa Maria in Fargo, surrounded by her loving family.

Ardith Yvonne Rubash was born on September 17, 1935 in Michigan, ND, the daughter of Anton and Laura (Foote) Rubash. She grew up in this area and moved with her family at an early age to East Grand Forks, MN, graduating from East Grand Forks High School. Ardith was united in marriage to Ernest Preston on July 3, 1954 in Grand Forks. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Northern Minnesota where Ernest worked in the mines. They later moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area and to Grandin in 1963. During her time in Grandin, Ardith provided daycare to many families. She later worked for the Hillsboro Nursing Home, retiring after many years of service. Ernest passed away on February 14, 2002, and she continued living in Grandin until 2005. In July of that year she moved to Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo due to the onset of Dementia.

Deann “Dee” R. (McCormick) Kirkpatrick, 54, Fargo, ND passed away February 17, 2014 peacefully in her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Bismarck, at 11:30 a.m., with Msgr. Thomas Richter officiating. Burial will be at Menoken Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Valoise M. " Bud " Pietron, age 93, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Valley Memorial Homes Woodside Village, Grand Forks, ND.

Valoise Matthew Pietron was born April 22, 1920 in Avon Township, Grand Forks County, ND the son of John and Justina "Tena" ( Zurr) Pietron Jr. He graduated from Larimore High School in 1938. He served his country in the Navy during World War II. Bud returned home married Mabel Troyer on June 19, 1946 in St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Larimore, ND. The couple made their home in Arvilla, ND. He worked for Strata Corporation, formerly Bradshaw Gravel Supply, as a welder for more than 40 years.
