Agnes Braaten, lifelong resident of Portland, ND, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND, at the age of 98.

Agnes Caroline Strand was born May 16, 1914, the eldest of eight children to Theodore and Clara (Bothun) Strand in Viking Township, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at Aurdahl Lutheran Church, Portland, and graduated from Viking School No. 1 and attended Portland High School.

Susan Stromstad, age 61, of Brooklyn Park, MN went to be with the Lord on December 6th at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital, Minneapolis, after a courageous fight with cancer. Susan ReNaye Stromstad was born August 20, 1951 at Crookston, MN to parents, Raymond & Marvie Stromstad. She attended school in Beltrami and later in Fertile. She graduated in 1969 from the Fertile-Beltrami High School. She attended the Anne Carlsen School in Jamestown and then worked for 3 years at the Crookston Library in the ’70’s. She spent time at Camp Courage in the summers of her youth and later stayed at Courage Center in Minneapolis where she received computer training. She lived at a Mary T Home for handicapped and was employed at Rise Inc. where she used her computer skills. Just this past October she was awarded the “Rising Star” Award for her dedicated work at Rise Inc. She so enjoyed her work that she hoped she wouldn’t have to retire at 65.
