'No Travel Advisory' extended to areas in northeastern North Dakota
BISMARCK - The North Dakota Department of Transportation and the North Dakota Highway Patrol have extended the "No Travel Advisory" to include areas in northeastern North Dakota south of U.S. Highway 2 due to freezing rain causing icy road conditions and hazardous travel.

Kenneth Hess
Kenneth Hess, 87, of Jamestown, ND, died Monday, December 30, 2013 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Kenneth George Hess was born on April 9, 1926, in Hope, ND, the son of William and Isabelle (Neva) Hess. He grew up in the Kensal and Jamestown areas before entering the US Navy. Kenneth served in the Seabees during WWII in the Philippines and New Guinea. He married Marie Folk on July 11, 1949 at St. James Catholic Church, Jamestown. The family moved to Fargo in 1975 where Kenneth worked as the Safety Director and Equal Opportunity Officer with Northern Improvement for over 40 years. After he retired in 1991, they moved back to Jamestown in 2005.

PRAIRIE ROSES: To Mark McEvers, whose quick action helped save a life. McEvers, a major in the North Dakota National Guard, was playing a recreational basketball game in Devils Lake on Dec. 6 when he saw a man collapse. McEvers grabbed an automated external defibrillator from the hallway. Another player, meanwhile, checked the pulse of the man, who was turning blue. A third man performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Their combined efforts helped save the man’s life; the man wouldn’t have survived without their intervention, emergency responders said.
