We celebrate the life of Marlys J. Hauschild, 82, Breckenridge, MN, who was received into Heaven on Monday, October 14, 2013 at her son's home, surrounded by her family and under the care of Riveredge Hospice. The Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 18, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Morris Stephens officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5 PM to 8 PM, with a 7 PM Prayer Service at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, and one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Tyler, ND. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Marlys was born April 12, 1931 near Tyler, ND, the daughter of Courtland and Laura (Meyer) Miller. She was baptized on May 10, 1931 and confirmed on May 20, 1945 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Tyler. She grew up on the family farm and attended Summit No. 4, graduating from Wahpeton High School in 1949. She was united in marriage to Floyd W. Hauschild on July 2, 1950 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Tyler, ND. They resided on the Hauschild home farm. Marlys worked in Food Service at NDSSS from March of 1969 to 1973 taking time off and going back to work from 1981 to 1997. In 1982, the couple moved into Wahpeton, Floyd passed away November 6, 2006. Marlys moved to Breckenridge in 2007, where she has since lived.

Mabel Lelm
Mabel Lelm, 99, Ada, Minnesota, died Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at The Stadter Center, Grand Forks, ND, following a brief illness.

Mabel was born August 27, 1914, to Gust and Elizabeth (Sprung) Anderson on the family farm, rural Ada. She attended country school in Winchester Township, Norman County. She also attended high school in Ada. She was united in marriage to Elmer Lelm on February 7, 1938. They owned and operated the family farm side by side for many years and also maintained a Grade A dairy herd. Mabel always raised a productive vegetable garden and did lots of canning for the family. They retired and moved to Ada in 1978. Elmer died in January 1984. She was a lifelong active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Ada.

Kevin Lou Spooner, 56, of Fargo died, Friday, October 4, 2013 at his home in Fargo. He is survived by: his daughter, Sierra Norman of Albion, Idaho with her mother Janeil Leslie; his parents, Bob and Maureen Spooner of Fargo, ND; and siblings: Brian (Janet) Spooner of Bismarck, ND; Jay (Jane) Spooner of Fargo, ND; Tobin (Joan) Spooner of Fargo, ND; Tim (Tracy) Spooner of Scottsdale, AZ; and Nan (Chris) Kennelly of Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by a niece, Andrea Spooner.

Kevin was born Dec. 22, 1956 in Conrad, MT. He graduated from Williston High School in 1975, and attended college in Williston and Albuquerque before earning his Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy from the University of North Dakota Therapy in 1980. He later earned his Master's degree in Physical Therapy in 1993. Kevin formed two companies in Williston to promote healthy living; The Body Firm and Spooner Physical Therapy, operating from 1983 to 1998.

Thorwald Ansgar “Unk” Rykken
Thorwald Ansgar “Unk” Rykken, age 89, passed away at home on October 5, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was born July 14, 1924, at the Bethany Indian Mission in Wittenberg, WI, where his father was serving as a missionary among the Ho-Chunk, Oneida, and Stockbridge people. His mother taught at the mission school sponsored by the Norwegian Lutheran Church. Thor attended the mission school until 1930 when the family moved to Petersburg, ND. Following graduation from Petersburg High School in 1941, Thor attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, where he was active in a variety of extra-curricular activities and served as senior class president. He excelled academically, graduating in 1947 with dual degrees in philosophy and the classics.

While singing in the Concordia Choir under Director Paul J. Christiansen, Thor met the love of his life, Cathryn Wambheim, and the two married in 1948. Thor and Cathy enjoyed 64 years of marriage, raised four children, and answered seven pastoral calls. Thor cared for Cathy during a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s, and she preceded him in death just six months ago.
