Davies’ Wilson resigns from track to focus on volleyball
FARGO – Melissa Wilson has resigned her position as the head girls track and field coach at Fargo Davies High School to allow her to pursue coaching growth as the newly appointed head volleyball coach and continue to oversee the strength and condition program. Coach Wilson was the head track coach since the start of the varsity program three years ago. Davies will open the position in early fall.

Merilynn A. Wilson
Former Wahpeton and Fargo resident Merilynn (Laskey) Wilson, 90, passed away surrounded by family in Port Townsend, Wash. on June 29, 2013. Born Merilynn Adair Laskey on July 30, 1922 in Minneapolis to Stanley and Sylvia Laskey, who moved to Wahpeton to operate a culvert company. Brothers Roger and Bill born; the family later moved to Fargo to operate Northwestern Equipment, today still in the Laskey family. Enjoyed summers at a cottage in Detroit Lakes, Minn. Attended Stephens College then Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., received master’s in journalism. Married fellow journalism student Bruce A. Wilson July 28, 1944. After serving in the Army Air Force, they worked for a daily paper in Williston, N.D. then purchased a weekly newspaper in Ritzville, Wash. in 1947; moving again to purchase the paper in Omak, Wash. in 1957. Raised a family of four. She helped build a library, co-founded the county historical society, helped build its museum, was college trustee, and partner with Bruce while he served in the State Senate for 16 years. After Bruce died in 1991, she moved to Port Townsend, Wash. to be near family, continuing work for social justice, supporting arts, herding the family. Preceding her: Her parents, husband Bruce, son Terry, nephew Trevor and an infant son. Surviving her: Brothers Bill Laskey of Fargo, Roger Laskey of Minneapolis; son Duff Wilson (wife Cydney Pullman) of New York, NY; son Scott Wilson (wife Jennifer) of Port Townsend, Wash.; daughter Chris (husband Bob) of Portland, Ore., and daughter-in-law Sandee Canton (husband Ed); also six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also one child and one grandchild. Service set July 28, 3 p.m., Quimper Unitarian Church, Port Townsend. Cathy Holowell, 50, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully from A.R.D.S. surrounded by family and friends, at Sanford Health, Fargo, on Tuesday morning, June 25, 2013.

Cathy was born in Moorhead, MN, on Feb. 15, 1963, to Gerald and Sandra (Myer) Mullins. She lived in the Fargo-Moorhead area and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School before moving to Alaska in 1983.
