His wife, kids and father-in-law drove down from Buffalo, N.Y., to see Pominville in action against the Columbus Blue Jackets. It was a good night for the former Buffalo Sabres captain – he scored a goal and had an assist for his first points for the Wild since his trade last week – in supporting Niklas Backstrom’s 24 saves in a 3-0 Minnesota victory.

Howard G. Payton, 92, of Moorhead, MN, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo, ND.

Howard George Payton was born, October 5, 1920, the son of Benjamin and Agnes (Omberson) Payton, in Slayton, MN, where he was raised and attended school. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 until 1947 and upon his discharge returned to Minnesota.
