Shirley Mae Osmundson
Shirley Mae (Osmundson) Smith, 84, of Cloverdale, California, formerly of San Jose, California passed away on Friday, October 11, 2013 at Emeritus of Santa Rosa. She was born to Irving A. and Alma (Tipper) Osmundson on July 19, 1929 in Grand Forks, North Dakota and grew up in East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

She attended school in East Grand Forks and graduated from East Grand Forks High School in 1947. In High School she was a cheerleader, sang in a sextet and triple-trio, and played the upright bass. In her senior yearbook she was voted “The Girl with the Prettiest Eyes” (a beautiful way to remember her). Shirley attended Grinnell College in Iowa her freshman year and transferred to the University of North Dakota the beginning of her sophomore year. During summer breaks she worked as a cabin maid at Yellowstone National Park. She graduated with a degree in Marketing & Merchandising. She utilized her degree working at Donaldson’s Department Store.

LaVerne Genevieve (Yterler) Nord
LaVerne Genevieve (Yterler) Nord died peacefully at home of natural causes on October 31, 2013. She was born May 25, 1920 to Mikkelborg and Ingeborg Yterler near Christine, N.D. She started school in a one-room schoolhouse in North Dakota and graduated from Wolverton High School in 1939. She married her high school sweetheart, Willys Nord, on March 1, 1942 in Moorhead, MN and accompanied him cross-country for his flight training. She worked in Moorhead while waiting for Willys to return from the war. Willys returned to complete his degree at Concordia College in Moorhead where they started their family with the birth of LaNae in 1946. They lived in Rugby and Bismarck, ND (where Cynthia was born, 1949), and Minneapolis before Willys was called into service for the Korean War. LaVerne was a military wife again, and the family lived in Denver, CO (where Bradley was born, 1955); Tachikawa, Japan; Smyrna, TN; and Jessheim, Norway before they retired to civilian life on a farm outside of Bemidji, MN in 1969. They lived there until Willys's death in 1988. LaVerne later moved to Moorhead and then to Minnetonka in 2001 to be closer to her daughters in the Twin Cities.

Preceded in death by her parents, and siblings: Borghild (John) Mathison, Mildred (Joseph) Skjonsby, Earl Yterler, and Ragner (Mabel Eide) Yterler. She is survived by: daughters and sons-in-law - LaNae Crawford and Thomas Doimer of Minnetonka; Cynthia and Steven Ahlgren of St. Paul; son - Bradley Nord of Clermont, FL; grandchildren - Kristin Crawford (Terry) Behr; Jon Crawford, Leif Ahlgren, Berit Ahlgren, Anna Liv Ahlgren, Erik Nord, Kyle Nord, and Kia Nord; and great-grandchildren - Brandon Behr, Matthew Behr, Holly Behr, and Adam Behr.
