Michael (Mike) James Kautzman, 60, was granted his angel’s wings on July 23, 2013, at his residence. Services will be held on Saturday, July 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Bismarck Community Church, Bismarck, ND, with Rev. Jared Lee officiating. Burial will be held in Hazelton, ND, at the Hazelton Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Friday, July 26, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Wesley R. "Wes" Spear
Wesley R. "Wes" Spear, 102, of Oakes, ND, passed away July 21, 2013 at the Oakes Community Hospital.

He was born on March 9, 1911 in Hudson Township, near Oakes, ND, to Howard H. and Minnie (Koch) Spear. Their home was the former Hudson Stage Coach Inn, which has been moved to a farmsite nearby. Wes received his elementary education in Hudson School and graduated from Oakes High School with the class of 1929. He worked with his father on the farm until the fall of 1933, when he began working for Emil Tedin as a welder and mechanic. In the spring of 1934, Wes began working for A.O. Foster Company at the Pure Oil Station and in 1935, as parts man and car sales at Foster Chevrolet, Inc.

Orvin Gerhardt Hagen was born July 14, 1921 to Agnes (Melhus) and Thomas O. Hagen in Bottineau County the 4th of 9 children. His family moved to Rolette County when he was a young boy where he attended Beaver Dam School. During this time he spent 2 years taking care of his Grandpa Ole and Grandma Gro Hagen and was schooled at Look Lake #2, Bottineau County while living with them. He was determined to get a high school education and did earn his G.E.D. from Bottineau High School many years later in 1957.

On his 11th birthday, July 14, 1932, The International Peace Garden was dedicated and he and his whole family attended the occasion, never ever dreaming that some day he would be known as “The Flower Guy from the Peace Garden” or “Mr. Peace Garden” – after working there for 30 years.

July 14, 2013, Henry D Ketterling, 97, Litchville, formerly of LaMoure, passed away Sunday morning at his home in Litchville, ND with his daughter and son-in-law by his side.

Henry D Ketterling was born February 13, 1916, 2 miles South of Fredonia, ND in Logan County to Daboldt Sr. and Elizabeth (Gall) Ketterling of Fredonia. When Henry was three years old they moved to McIntosh County, later the family moved again to a farm seven miles SW of Fredonia and in 1934 the family moved to a farm North of LaMoure.

Judy Ann Anderson
Born January 26, 1947 in Williston, ND, Judy Ann Anderson was visiting her son’s home in Lake Park, MN when sudden cardiac arrest rendered her unconscious on July 5. She was taken to Essentia Hospital in Fargo, but never regained consciousness and died there on July 9. A longtime North Dakota resident, she had moved to Tucson, AZ in 1989.

Judy lived for family and friends, who always found joy in her presence. Survivors include her husband Lawrence Lippert of Tucson, AZ; her son Gary Jon Schander and her daughter Tanya Rae Keats of Phoenix, AZ; her sisters Connie Klein of Fargo, Sharon Anderson of Carrington, Linda Zimmerman of Tucson, AZ and foster-sister Jeanette Bryant of Anoka MN, as well as her brother Edward of Barlow. Also surviving are her two ND granddaughters, Maggie Schander and Morgan Schander, plus former husband Frank Schander of Fergus Falls, as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral services will be on Monday, July 8, at 10:30 AM at Evergreen United Methodist Church, Wahpeton with Pastor Jenny Hallenbeck officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5 PM to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Wahpeton. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Dorval was born in Wahpeton on January 6, 1924 to Walter and Ebba (Olson) Schmidt. He graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1942 and attended NDSCS until entering the Navy Air Force. He served from 1943 until 1946.

Grace Martens Colville, 94, West Fargo, ND died Monday, July 1, 2013 at Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.

Grace Harriet Plummer was born April 29, 1919 on a farm near Barnesville, MN to Oliver & Helen (Griffin) Plummer. She grew up there and attended country school. In June 1940, she married Roy Martens in Barnesville. They lived in Moorhead where she was employed by The Fairmont Creamery. In 1955 she started Roy’s Café in Fargo and following its fire, she opened “The Coffee Shop” in West Fargo. In 1962 they began operating the West Fargo Hotel and Café.
