Jerome "Jerry" Andrew Kochmann, 89, passed away January 3, 2014, at the Mahnomen Health Center. He was born June 24, 1924, near Beaulieu, MN, to Julius and Veronica (Athmann) Kochmann.

Jerry grew up on the family farm with three brothers and three sisters. He attended North Elementary School and graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1942. After high school, he remained at home continuing to farm with his father and worked various odd jobs.

Edna Stella Galow was born on August 14, 1918 in Bisbee, ND to Adolph and Lydia (Gottschalk) Galow. She attended school in Perth and Bisbee and graduated from Bisbee High School in 1935.

Helen C. Estenson
Helen C. Estenson, age 101, of Crookston, died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at RiverView Health in Crookston.

Helen Catherine Charais was born on June 22, 1912 in Kankakee, Indiana, daughter of Lemuel and Evelina (Besse) Charais. Her family moved to the Eldred-Climax (MN) area when Helen was young. She grew up and was educated in the area, graduating from the Gully (MN) High School as Salutatorian in a class of three. She was united in marriage with Ordean P. Estenson on November 3, 1933 at Climax. They farmed at rural Climax until retiring in 1963 and moving into Climax in 1962. Their son, Wayne and his family moved to the farm and lived there briefly until Wayne’s death on December 21, 1963. During the years on the farm, Helen cooked for the family and farm crews. In the early 1960’s, she cooked at the Climax school. Helen and Ordean moved back to the farm in 1967 for a short time, before moving back into Climax. Ordean died on December 13, 1984. Helen moved in to Crookston in 2006 and settled into the Summit Apartments, loved living there and after a few years never wanted to leave the building, she thought it was the best place to be.

Vivian L. Mueller, age 82, died at Essentia Health on Wed., Dec. 25, 2013 in Fargo, ND.

Vivian Lillian Freitag was born to Albert and Lillian (Mallow) Freitag on July 8, 1931 in Embden, ND. She lived in the Embden-Buffalo area until May 2, 1949, at which time she married Donald Mueller. She began her years of travel, as her husband was a military man. Vivian was a wonderful military wife. She helped her husband through 22 years of service. She would do anything to be with him and could still have the time for 2 sons. She was often called upon by Donald’s commanders to organize clubs for the enlisted wives, which she had no problem doing. Vivian returned to the Fargo area in 1970, where she has resided since. She was taken care of at ManorCare for most of the past year and was liked by almost everyone that worked there, and was treated well by all. Vivian was a wonderful mother and wonderful wife for 64 years.
