Sister Maureen Walker
Sister Maureen Walker died August 14, 2013, at Sacred Heart Convent. She was born March 5, 1930, in Valley City, ND. The fourth of the five children of Eleanor Sheehan and Earl Chapman Walker, she was baptized Therese Louine and moved with her family to Fargo as a young child. In 1948 she graduated from Sacred Heart Academy. After attending college for a year, she worked in medical clinics in Fargo and in California.

In 1953 she entered the Presentation Sisters and made profession of vows in 1956. From 1955 to 1968 Sister Maureen taught elementary classes in St. Anthony’s and St. Mary’s (Fargo) St. Elizabeth’s (Sykeston), and St. Alphonsus (Langdon). For six years she was director of religious education in Langdon. Along the way she earned a baccalaureate degree from the College of St. Scholastic and a graduate degree from Creighton University. From 1974-77, Sister Maureen was Director of Adult Education for the Diocese of Fargo. For many years she served her religious congregation in formation work and in administration.

Anita Erickson
Anita (Unruh) Erickson, 93, of Fargo, ND, was called to her heavenly home Tuesday, August 13, 2013. She was born to Daniel and Minnie Unruh on August 2, 1920, in Goodrich, ND, where she grew up with seven siblings. Anita graduated from Goodrich High School and attended Valley City State Teachers College and Taylor University, Upland, Indiana, preparing to teach at Sharon, McClusky and Hillsboro, ND.

On June 3, 1949, she married Orville Erickson and they settled on their farmstead near Hunter, ND. Their children are Serene (Tom) Ysteboe, Fargo, Jeanene (Rich) Engebretson, Edina, MN, Lorene (Doug) Anderson, Mesa, AZ, and Paul (Bonnie) Erickson, Hunter.

Irene Elizabeth Rust
Irene Elizabeth Rust, 87, Fargo, North Dakota, died on August 14, 2013 in Sanford Hospital Palliative Care. She was born June 8, 1926 to Albert and Emily (Hendrickx) Kasowski of rural Mapleton and grew up with seven sisters and two brothers. Irene graduated from Mapleton High School and then attended Teacher’s College in Valley City. She taught at rural schools in Cass County.

Irene met Duane Rust while teaching in Prosper, North Dakota. They were married on September 16, 1947. Irene and Duane farmed in the Prosper area and raised twelve children. They were members of St. Mary’s Cathedral and in later years, Holy Spirit in Fargo, North Dakota. Irene enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, crocheting and knitting, attending Homemaker’s Club, and volunteering with the St. John’s Ladies Auxiliary. She was devoted to her husband and family. Following retirement, Duane and Irene lived in Park Rapids, MN, but eventually returned to Fargo.

Thomas Reid Wilkie, died Wednesday August 7th 2013 under Hospice care in San Diego, CA. Born April, 16th 1957 to John and Maureen Wilkie in Carman, Manitoba. Tom spent his early childhood in Carman until the family moved to Fargo in 1969. Tom attended both Ben Franklin and North High until he moved to San Diego in the late 70's. Robert A. Dewey
Robert A. Dewey, age 75, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at his home.

Bob was born in Hawley, Minnesota to Floyd and Eileen Dewey. He graduated from high school in Felton, Minnesota in 1956 and served in the U.S. Navy 1958-1962. He married Mary Lou in Pengilly, MN on May 2, 1964. Robert worked for Hawkinson Construction in Grand Rapids for many years and retired in 2000.

Arlene Zimmerman
Arlene Elizabeth Zimmerman passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Bethany on University Drive, while under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Arlene was born to Leo and Lydia Eisel on November 4, 1929 in Fargo, ND. She grew up in Little Falls and Duluth, MN. She went to beauty school in Duluth, and also worked for the telephone company there. She met her husband, Cliff, in Duluth, and married in December of 1946. Cliff and Arlene had two children, Deanna “Dee” (Larry) Johnson of Moorhead, MN, and Earl (Nancy) Zimmerman of Corcoran, MN. They moved to St. Louis Park, MN in 1962. Mom worked for the J. C. Penney Co., until she retired in 1981. At that time, she and her husband worked part time at True Value Hardware for many years. She and her husband moved to Bethany Retirement in Fargo in 2008. Anyone who knew Arlene would agree that she invented the phrase “born to shop.” She loved keeping up on the latest fashions and always looking nice.

John C. Resell, Jr.
John C. Resell, Jr., 73, Fargo, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Sanford Health, Fargo surrounded by his family.

John was born April 11, 1940 to John and Elizabeth Resell in Williston, North Dakota. He grew up in this area graduating from Williston High School in 1958. John attended UND and graduated with a Bachelor of Philosophy degree on January 26, 1963. While attending UND he was in the ROTC and upon graduation was commissioned into the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. John married Georgia K. Blomquist on January 27, 1963 in Grand Forks at First Presbyterian Church. He was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. After he was discharged from the Army he returned to North Dakota where he worked as an insurance adjuster for 30 years. He was very meticulous and conscientious doing his job very well. He retired in 2002. On January 27, 2013 with family John and Georgia celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary
