Lillian Mary Kluck was born October 31, 1917 in Stutsman County, North Dakota the daughter of Clara (Kluck) and step-father Claus Otto. Lillian took advanced tests and graduated from Grace City High School at the age of 15 and attended State Teachers College (Valley City State University) graduating with her Two Year Standard Teaching Degree at age 17. Her first teaching job was a one room school "Highland" west of Mandan, North Dakota.

James Leon South
James Leon “Jim” South, 86, of Daytona Beach FL, passed away July 13, 2013, in the Port Orange Hospice Care Center. He was a volunteer at the Hospice Care Center for over 15 years and often said “It is the best paying job I ever had.” A memorial service is tentatively planned at Shoreham Chapel on North Melissa Drive, Detroit Lakes, MN on Saturday August 24.

Jim was born Oct. 8, 1926 in Fargo, ND to Leon Cornelius and Clara Elizabeth (Swanson) South. He graduated from Fargo Central High in 1944 then went into the Navy where he was trained in deciphering Morris Code. He was honorably discharged in the summer of 1946 and enrolled in The University of North Dakota where he was a member of the college hockey team. Jim transferred to the University of Colorado in 1948 in order to be near his sweetheart, Mary Jacobson. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science from University of Colorado, Jim went on to receive his Law Degree from the University of Denver. He was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 1951 and the US Supreme Court in 1963.

Orvin Gerhardt Hagen was born July 14, 1921 to Agnes (Melhus) and Thomas O. Hagen in Bottineau County the 4th of 9 children. His family moved to Rolette County when he was a young boy where he attended Beaver Dam School. During this time he spent 2 years taking care of his Grandpa Ole and Grandma Gro Hagen and was schooled at Look Lake #2, Bottineau County while living with them. He was determined to get a high school education and did earn his G.E.D. from Bottineau High School many years later in 1957.

On his 11th birthday, July 14, 1932, The International Peace Garden was dedicated and he and his whole family attended the occasion, never ever dreaming that some day he would be known as “The Flower Guy from the Peace Garden” or “Mr. Peace Garden” – after working there for 30 years.

Axel Nielsen, age 92, of Sheyenne, ND, died Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Altru Health System, Grand Forks, ND.

Axel S. Nielsen was born on June 13, 1921 on a farm in Rock Township near Sheyenne to Julius and Jensy Nielsen. He graduated in May of 1941. He was called to service on March 25, 1942 and was discharged on November 11, 1945.

Gary Lee Jensen, Sr., age 53, of Grand Forks, ND, lost his courageous battle with cancer at Valley Eldercare Nursing Center in Grand Forks, ND.

Gary was born on October 16, 1959, the son of Clarence D. and Eunice (Lange) Jensen in Carrington, ND. He grew up in various towns in ND calling Carrington his home town. Gary worked with the Carrington Police Department in 1977-78. He worked for the State of ND Dept. of Transportation Truck Regulatory Division on August 14, 1978 to July 1983, when the division was merged with ND Highway Patrol Motor Carrier. Gary worked for 35 years with the State of ND.

Harriet Louise was born on May 22, 1924 in Moorhead, MN to Emanuel and Julia (Brandvold) Kolke. She grew up in Moorhead, where she attended Hopkins grade school. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1942. While attending Moorhead High she was a member of the National Honor Society and ranked 14th in her graduating class of 135. Harriet was awarded the Women’s Missionary Federation freshman college scholarship.
