Donna Gaffaney
Donna E. Gaffaney died peacefully in her sleep at Bethany on University after a short but difficult battle with cancer on February 13, 2014 at the age of 77. Donna was born on August 11, 1936 and was raised on the family farm near Van Hook, North Dakota. She was one of seven children born to Lawrence and Lena Lund. Donna attended a small country school through 8th grade and was part of the first graduating class from New Town High School.

Following high school, Donna attended Dakota Business School in Bismarck, North Dakota and majored in accounting. After college, she worked for Pan American Oil Company in Bismarck before moving back to New Town where she met her husband Jim.

Esther Yerkes Cook
Esther Yerkes Cook, 88, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away on Tuesday February 11, 2014.

She was born in Philadelphia on May 18, 1925 to the late Florence and Simeon Yerkes, and was the wife of the late James Cook. She graduated from Girls' High School in Philadelphia and West Chester State Teachers' College with a degree in Physical Education. Esther taught and coached in the Philadelphia area before moving to Fargo in 1971. Esther coached volleyball and basketball at Concordia College and later managed the pool and tennis programs at the Fargo Country Club. She was most recently employed at Courts Plus until 2009, and was a member of the Fargo Country Club and First Presbyterian Church.

Alfred J. Rieniets
Alfred John Rieniets was born at Fulda, MN, to Frederick and Ella (Behr) Rieniets, on July 27, 1917, the oldest of eleven children. Alfred spent his early years in North Dakota and joined the US Army on October 21, 1943. He served overseas during WWII.

Alfred married Vivian Ryder on September 26, 1946, at Detroit Lakes, MN. He worked as a mechanic for a time and then began his career as a mail carrier with the US Postal Service. After he retired, he managed the Moorhead VFW Club.

Maxine Fish, 96, Moorhead, MN, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014, in Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead.

Elaine Maxine Nickerson was born on August 26, 1917, to Clarence and Edva (Erickson) Nickerson, in Superior, NE. The family moved several times in Maxine's youth, finally moving to Ulen, MN. Maxine was married to Norman Syverson, in 1935, in Ulen, and raised their family there until 1945, when the family moved to Moorhead.

Barb Thompson
Barbara Thompson, age 86, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Sunday (February 9th) at First Care Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (February 15th) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Arlen Hermodson and Marilyn Malmanger officiating. Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com. Memorials are preferred to Hope Lutheran Church or Essentia Hospice of Fosston.

Barb was born April 14, 1927 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to A. Melvin and Brita (Opdahl) Larson. She was the youngest of three daughters. They lived in Scarville, Iowa until they moved to a farm near Beltrami, Minnesota in 1932. She graduated from Fertile High School in 1944 and attended Concordia College from 1944-1948. She graduated from Concordia College with a Bachelor of Science degree in History Education. It was at Concordia that Barb met the love of her life, Marv Thompson. Barb and Marv were married in Beltrami August 19, 1948 and recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. They lived in Lakeville, Minnesota from 1949-1951 and then moved to Fosston.
