Jeffrey Martin Hewitt was born on April 1, 1944, the son of Leslie and Ethel (Legacie) Hewitt at Carrington Hospital, Carrington. He was raised on the family farm near Sykeston, ND, and graduated in 1962 from Sykeston High School.

Dorothy P. Lemke
Dorothy Pearl Lemke, 89 of Moorhead, MN, surrounded by her loved ones, began her next journey on Wednesday, January 22, 2014.

She was born July 14, 1924 in Moorhead to Edward F. and Edna C. (Melsness) McGough. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Moorhead where she graduated from Moorhead High School in 1942. She married Loren Lemke on December 2, 1944. Together they owned and operated Lemke's Chicken Inn and other food related businesses in the area. She worked at the Red Owl Store, S&L department store and served as head cook with the Moorhead School District for 25 years before retiring at the age of 75. Dorothy was a lifelong member of St. Francis de Sales Church in Moorhead and the Catholic Daughters of America.

James Russell Erikson
James Russell Erikson, 89, died on January 23, 2014 at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN. He was born at home in rural Fertile, Polk County, on March 5, 1924, to Herman and Elma (Erickson ) Erikson. James grew up and attended Nelson Country School, District #70, in his home. After graduation from grade school, James attended Northwest School of Agriculture, he graduated in 1942.

James farmed with his father until he purchased the farm. This farm was homesteaded by James' grandparents who emigrated from Sweden. When he started farming, they used horses; then in the 1930s, bought a GP John Deere with steel wheels. In 1940, they bought an H John Deere and, in 1948, they bought their first John Deere combine. James also did custom corn picking for area farmers. He had a herd of Hereford cattle he took pride in.

Ronald P. Rasmussen, age 57, of New Brighton, passed away Jan. 22, 2014. Kristie (Gathman) Throgmorton
Kristie passed away on January 21, 2014 in Gilbert, Arizona. She was a resident of Mesa, Arizona with her spouse Thomas Duddy. She was the daughter of Frank and Virginia Gathman (Detroit Lakes) and mother of 2 wonderful children (Heidi Throgmorton Gonzalez and Eric Throgmorton) with 2 awesome grandsons (Tony and Ethan). She also leaves behind 4 siblings (with their spouses and families) including sister Tammy (Gathman) DuChene, and brothers Michael, Timothy, and Patrick Gathman. She also treasured Tom’s children, Brian, Patrick, Daniel, Michael, and Amanda.

In 1982, she was married to James Throgmorton until his death in 1989. They lived most of those years in Germany serving our military.

Ruth Elaine Halda
Ruth Elaine Halda, 82, of Perham, MN and formerly of Mayville, ND, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Perham Health Center. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 11:00a.m. at Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville. A visitation will be held from 10:00a.m. until the time of the service. There will also be a memorial service on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 2:00p.m. at Perham Living in Perham, MN. A visitation will be held from 1:30p.m. until the time of the service.

Ruth was born July 9, 1931, in the Beaver Creek Township to Arthur and Prudence (Peterson) Gronhovd. She grew up on a farm in the Beaver Creek area, graduating from Hatton High School in 1949. After high school, Ruth attended Valley City State Teachers College for one year, returning to the Beaver Creek area where she taught rural school for three years. On August 2, 1953, she married Vernon "Chub" Halda at the Beaver Creek Church. Ruth and Vernon enjoyed their time at the lake and built a lake cabin at Big Pine Lake near Perham. Vernon passed away in 1998. Ruth worked at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND, and then for Trail County Social Services in Hillsboro, ND until her retirement. After her retirement, she moved from Mayville to Portland, ND where she lived for a couple years and then moved to Perham, MN. She also loved playing the piano, playing cards, and reading. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Mayville Lutheran Church, and bridge clubs in Mayville and Perham.
