Lt. Col. (USAF Ret.) Irvin Arthur Fischer
Lt. Col. (USAF Ret.) Irvin Arthur Fischer, of Charlottesville, died at home on July 14,2013. Born in Bismarck, North Dakota, on March 15, 1919, he was the son of the late Ingvald and Emma Larson Fischer. He was predeceased by five siblings

Col. Fischer grew up in Fargo, North Dakota and developed his passion for golf as an 11 year old caddy at the local golf course. As there was limited golf activity due to the Depression, he and his brother became scratch golfers waiting for customers and students. Irv played golf all over the world and enjoyed thousands of rounds with friends and family at Farmington Country Club, shooting his age many times and playing his last round at the age of 94.

James Leon South
James Leon “Jim” South, 86, of Daytona Beach FL, passed away July 13, 2013, in the Port Orange Hospice Care Center. He was a volunteer at the Hospice Care Center for over 15 years and often said “It is the best paying job I ever had.” A memorial service is tentatively planned at Shoreham Chapel on North Melissa Drive, Detroit Lakes, MN on Saturday August 24.

Jim was born Oct. 8, 1926 in Fargo, ND to Leon Cornelius and Clara Elizabeth (Swanson) South. He graduated from Fargo Central High in 1944 then went into the Navy where he was trained in deciphering Morris Code. He was honorably discharged in the summer of 1946 and enrolled in The University of North Dakota where he was a member of the college hockey team. Jim transferred to the University of Colorado in 1948 in order to be near his sweetheart, Mary Jacobson. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science from University of Colorado, Jim went on to receive his Law Degree from the University of Denver. He was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 1951 and the US Supreme Court in 1963.

Gregory G. Trostad
Gregory G. Trostad, 59, lost his battle to cancer on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, in his home in Moorhead surrounded by his loving family, and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Gregory Gale Trostad was born on January 25, 1954 in Duluth, MN, to Alden and MaryLou (Gude) Trostad. He grew up in MN, SD and IL. Greg enjoyed working for Gateway Building Systems in West Fargo. He loved spending time with his family, fishing and target shooting.

George Maixner
George Maixner was born April 29, 1919 in Lankin, North Dakota, the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Kouba) Maixner. He grew up and attended school in that area.

George married Ruth Bosh in Lankin, North Dakota on November 12, 1941. George worked for the civilian conservation corps for four years. After that he joined the National Guard where he served until joining the infantry in 1943. After leaving the service in 1945, George returned to the Fargo-Moorhead area where he went to work at Carstenson's Auto Machine Shop. George worked there for 33 years until retiring in 1979. After George’s retirement he started Maixner Lawn Service with Ruth at his side helping him with lawns. George also enjoyed hunting geese and ducks and fishing with Ruth.

July 14, 2013, Henry D Ketterling, 97, Litchville, formerly of LaMoure, passed away Sunday morning at his home in Litchville, ND with his daughter and son-in-law by his side.

Henry D Ketterling was born February 13, 1916, 2 miles South of Fredonia, ND in Logan County to Daboldt Sr. and Elizabeth (Gall) Ketterling of Fredonia. When Henry was three years old they moved to McIntosh County, later the family moved again to a farm seven miles SW of Fredonia and in 1934 the family moved to a farm North of LaMoure.

Clyde Hoadley
Clyde Hoadley, age 62, a resident of rural Pelican Rapids, MN, died on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at his home near Pelican Rapids.

Clyde Eugene Hoadley was born in Pelican Rapids to Ralph and Marion "Kit" (Kittleson) Hoadley on August 6, 1950. He grew up near Pelican Rapids and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1968. After high school Clyde worked for Wright Tree Service. Then he worked for ORD Manufacturing in Pelican Rapids as a foreman. On July 22, 1973 he was united in marriage to Judi Johnson at the First Congregational Church in Pelican Rapids. After his employment with ORD, he was employed by Bob Ressett as a manager at the Pelican Home Center. From 1990 to the present time he owned and operated Northwest Glass and Services in Pelican Rapids.

Isabel Mische, 100, died on July 9 at Sanford Health.

Isabel was born on November 12, 1912 to John and Mary Lemna in Verona, ND. At age 6 Isabel's parents moved to Fargo where she resided the rest of her life. Isabel graduated from Sacred Heart Academy (Shanley HS) in 1931. In 1932, Isabel married Louis (Lou) Mische and had 62 happy years together. Isabel worked in retail for 32 years at Mandel Furs. In recent years she was an avid bridge player and mainly loved being with her family, friends, and her church.

Harriet Louise Powers, 89, of Casselton, ND, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at her home.

Harriet Louise was born on May 22, 1924 in Moorhead, MN to Emanuel and Julia (Brandvold) Kolke. She grew up in Moorhead, where she attended Hopkins grade school. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1942. While attending Moorhead High she was a member of the National Honor Society and ranked 14th in her graduating class of 135. Harriet was awarded the Women’s Missionary Federation freshman college scholarship.

Sister M. Claudia Nelson
Sister M. Claudia Nelson, age 88, a member of the Sisters of the Presentation, Fargo, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013. Ilama Mary (Ilamae) was born May 21, 1925, to Elizabeth Brown and Selmer Nelson in Chicago IL. The eldest of the seven Nelson children she grew up in Scobey, MT.

Ilamae entered the Order of the Presentation Sisters, received the name, Sister M. Claudia, and made Profession of Vows in 1946. She received her undergraduate degree from St. Catherine’s University in St. Paul and her graduate degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. An accomplished musician and skilled liturgist, Sister Claudia taught vocal and instrumental music at St. Mary’s and St. Anthony’s elementary schools in Fargo and at Shanley High School, St. James Academy, St. Alphonsus High School, and Gonzaga University.
