GRAND FORKS – In 1997, North Dakota State University students donned University of North Dakota janitor shirts to pluck the Nickel Trophy from the football players’ lounge in Memorial Stadium. They then took the football rivalry’s prize on a cross-country tour, documenting the trip with photographs of the Nickel at such landmarks as the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls.

Ethel L (Rawalt) Skistad
Ethel L (Rawalt) Skistad, age 98, of Gulf Breeze, Florida, formerly of Fargo, ND, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014 in Gulf Breeze, Florida.

Ethel, daughter of Harry and Maie (Burt) Rawalt was born November 25, 1915 in Fargo, ND, where she grew up and graduated from Fargo Central High School. On June 7, 1941 she married Arnold Skistad. Arnold and Ethel farmed in the Fergus Falls, MN area before moving to Fargo, ND. Ethel worked at NDSU for several years before she and her husband moved to Gulf Breeze, FL in 1967. After moving to Florida, Ethel worked in the records department at the Medical Center Clinic in Pensacola, Florida until she retired. Ethel and her husband, Arnold, were faithful members of the Gulf Breeze Presbyterian Church.

Albert J. Myers, 66, Fargo, ND died Wed., Feb. 5, 2014 at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo.

Albert Joseph Myers was born June 30, 1947 to Thomas C. and Rita (Miller) Myers in Poughkeepsie, NY. He attended St. Peter’s Parochial School, where he was an active member and altar boy. He also attended Our Lady of the Lourdes High School, graduating in 1966. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended Naval Hospital Corpsman School, Great Lakes, IL. He was sent to Vietnam in May 1967; in the midst of battle Al was injured while attempting to rescue injured marines. After his time in the jungle he assisted in setting up a children’s hospital in Dang Ha, Vietnam with the Third Marine Division.

Claudia M. Pratt
After a long and valiant dance with cancer, Claudia Pratt, 51, departed this world on January 29, 2014 surrounded by her family. Claudia Marie Pratt was born February 28, 1962 in Fargo, ND, oldest daughter of Paul and Marguerite Pratt. She grew up on the family farm outside of Gardner, ND, a place she loved dearly and called home.

She graduated class of 1980 from Cass Valley North and received her Bachelor of Interior Architecture degree from Kansas State University where her Clovia 4-H House sisters became lifelong friends. During that time, her design studies led her to Copenhagen, Denmark where she studied and worked at DIS (Danish Institute for Study Abroad) for over a year.
