Sheldon J. "Sam" Sumner
Sheldon J. "Sam" Sumner, 86, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Tuesday, January 8 in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 12, 2013, 4:00 pm at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, Reverend Wade Dutton, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with military rites provided by the Lake Region Veterans Honor Guard.

Sheldon Jerome Sumner, known as Sam, was born October 26, 1926 in Dawson, MN to Samuel and Olga (Elstad) Sumner. He is a 1945 graduate of Dawson High School and served with the U.S. Army during WWII. Following his discharge, he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. Sam was united in marriage to Elsie Michaelson in 1949 in Dawson, MN. That same year, they moved to Detroit Lakes where he served his apprenticeship with Star Electric. They moved to Prior Lake, MN in 1953 where he worked for Minneapolis Electric Service and for Prior Lake Electric. They returned to Detroit Lakes in 1956 and started Long and Sumner Electric. In 1957, Sam purchased the interest of his partner and operated the business on his own. Elsie died 12/22/1996. Sam was united in marriage to Patsy Gift 6/20/2003 in Detroit Lakes and have made their home here since that time.

A. Carol Baker, 77, of LaMoure, ND, passed away January 7, 2013, at the Oakes Community Hospital.

Arlene Carol Dancer, daughter of Charles and Pauline (Olson) Dancer was born April 28, 1935 at Webster, South Dakota. Her family moved to the Jamestown, North Dakota area, where she grew up and attended school. Carol married Grant Baker on November 11, 1952 in Moorhead, Minnesota. After their marriage, Grant entered the service, and Carol followed him moving from place to place throughout his military career, and again relocating in different places through his employment with Ottertail. LaMoure has been their home since 1978, at which time they also became members of Zoar Lutheran Church. Carol enjoyed spending time at their lake home in Minnewauken, North Dakota, and after retiring she enjoyed spending winters in Arizona. She liked spending time at the casino "playing the game of chance". She also liked cooking and spending time with her animals. But what Carol loved most, was being around her kids, grandkids, and the rest of her family.
