Terence L. Wawers
Terence L. Wawers, 69, rural Battle Lake, MN, originally Fairmount, ND, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Lake Region Healthcare, Fergus Falls, MN, after a brief battle with cancer. The Memorial Service will be Thursday, 2:00 PM at Evergreen United Methodist Church, Wahpeton. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 PM to 8 PM with a 7:30 Prayer Service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton and one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at Lake Ida Cemetery, Lake Park, MN.
Terence "Terry" was born August 28, 1943, at Breckenridge, MN, the son of Leander and Edith (Suess) Wawers. He grew up near Fairmount, ND and graduated from Fairmount High School in 1961. He married Peggy Tangen on August 5, 1967 and graduated from Valley City State College in 1969. He taught school at Kathryn, ND and Golden Valley, ND. Terry started work with Steiger Tractor, Fargo, in 1974. On March 28, 1991 he married Mary McCullough in Hawley, MN. The couple lived in Hawley, Terry retired in 2006. The couple moved to Deer Lake, MN for his retirement.

Hawley woman advocates for longer time between pets' rabies shots
HAWLEY, Minn. - Jane Anderson believes too many veterinarians are not following the recommendations for rabies vaccinations, which costs pet owners money and risks the health of cats and dogs. Anderson said she first became aware of the issue when she moved here about six years ago to open Groom Room, a dog kennel and grooming business.

Maynard "Dusty" Karsten
Maynard "Dusty" Karsten, 68, of Ulen MN died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River.
Maynard Peter “Dusty” Karsten was born May 19, 1944 in Ada, Minnesota the son of F. Peter and Evangeline (Larsen) Karsten. He was raised in Felton and attended school there. As a young man he worked for his Uncle Bill Karsten logging in the Blackduck, Minnesota area. Later he drove truck for Industrial Builders for a few years. On July 11, 1969 Dusty was united in marriage to Eileen Bjerke in Dilworth, Minnesota and after a short time they made their home in Felton, Minnesota. Dusty drove for Cossette Trucking and later for Dittmer Trucking. In the early 1980’s Dusty and Eileen moved their family to Ulen, where they have made their home since. In the early 1990’s, he started working as a mechanic with his father at Pete’s Hi Way 9 Station in Felton. In 1991, Dusty and Eileen purchased the cafe which she operated and in 1996 they purchased the service station which he operated. They operated the businesses together until selling them in 2006. At that time he began working for his son Waylon at ECSI in Pelican Rapids, MN where he operated a plasma welder, a job he truly loved. After Waylon’s death in 2007, Dusty continued working there for a short time before becoming a mechanic for Dunham Gravel where he was employed until last fall. He also did DOT truck inspections for the past several years.

Elois Romaine Edlund was born April 13, 1929, in Fargo, ND, to C. Selmer and Grace (Halgunseth) Edlund. She graduated from Abercrombie (ND) High School in 1946. Elois married Vernon J. In December of 2009, she moved to Cozy Country Living in Hawley, MN, where she was cared for by two special angels - Jeff and Ginger Dauner.

Walter Peter Okke, 76, of Fargo, ND, passed away on April 29, 2013, at Essentia Hospital with family by his side. The family would like to thank the Essentia staff for their compassionate care for Walter while he was there.
Walter resided in Fargo, ND for the past sixteen years. He married Beverly Grant on February 4, 1961 in Moorhead, MN. Together they made their home in Glyndon, MN, on a farm and raised six children. He worked at Ames Sand and Gravel for many years. He enjoyed trapping, raising farm animals, working on cars, gardening and cooking out with family.
