James Lauman
James Lauman, 73, Wahpeton, ND passed away on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. The funeral mass will be on Tuesday, March 4, at 9:30 AM at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton, ND with Rev. Dale Lagodinski as celebrant. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM prayer vigil at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, ND. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the spring at Calvary Cemetery, Wahpeton, ND. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Jim was born on January 12, 1941 in Breckenridge, MN to Hubert and Louise (Elmquist) Lauman. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Adalbert's Catholic Church in Wahpeton, ND. He graduated from country school Dwight #1. Jim lived and farmed on the family farm his entire life. He enjoyed all things pertaining to farm life. He especially enjoyed seeding the fields in spring and trucking grain during the harvest. He also did gardening, lawn mowing, and other things that needed to be done.

Dorothy Houglum
Dorothy Jean Mathiason was born December 7, 1919, in Middle River, MN, the only child of Chester and Sadie (Schlattman) Mathiason. She attended grade school in Abercrombie, ND, and Perley, MN, and graduated from Borup (MN) High School in 1937. She graduated from Moorhead (MN) State Teachers College and began her career teaching in a one room schoolhouse in Traverse County, MN. Throughout the years, she taught in Johnson, Borup, Perley, and Hendrum (MN) schools.

On June 30, 1947, Dorothy married Bennett Houglum in Bethania Lutheran Church of rural Perley. They were married nearly fifty years before his death in 1997. She was active in her church and many community organizations and activities. Riverside 4-H Club of Norman County was proud to have her as a leader for sixty-five years.

Gerald "Gerry" or "Mick" W.Mickelson
Gerry died peacefully in his Edina, MN home on February 13 at 90 years of age. The son of Melvin and Tilla Mickelson of rural Shelly MN, Mick was the oldest of four children. He met the love of his life, Peggy Foss, at Halstad High and they lived life hand in hand through 67 years of marriage until her death in 2013. Their marriage served as an example of deep love, respect and partnership to their family and all who knew them. Mick bravely served his country in WWII. He took part in the liberation of Dachau and survived the Battle of Reipertswiller, one of the bloodiest battles of the war. He returned home to work as Service Manager for the Lahr Company and Northern Automotive and retired as Vice President of Northwest Fiberglass. His greatest joy was being a father to his daughter who adored him and Boppa to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mick loved his family and friends, Big Band music and Dixieland jazz, lutefisk and Gopher Women’s Basketball. Mick was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved Peggy, and precious great granddaughter and birthday buddy, Brady Lindstrom. He is survived by his loving daughter, Diane Brady; two grandchildren and their spouses who each loved and admired him, Christopher Brady (Christy) and Colleen Brady Lindstrom (Matt); three great grandchildren who delighted him in his last years, Oliver, Tilla and Keller Lindstrom; sisters Ione Magnuson and Phyllis Mickelson of Moorhead and Eunice Hams of Hillsboro; and many dear relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 1 at 2:00 pm at Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Rd, Edina, with reception to follow. Memorials preferred to Normandale Luther

Ardith Preston
Ardith passed away on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Villa Maria in Fargo, surrounded by her loving family.

Ardith Yvonne Rubash was born on September 17, 1935 in Michigan, ND, the daughter of Anton and Laura (Foote) Rubash. She grew up in this area and moved with her family at an early age to East Grand Forks, MN, graduating from East Grand Forks High School. Ardith was united in marriage to Ernest Preston on July 3, 1954 in Grand Forks. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Northern Minnesota where Ernest worked in the mines. They later moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area and to Grandin in 1963. During her time in Grandin, Ardith provided daycare to many families. She later worked for the Hillsboro Nursing Home, retiring after many years of service. Ernest passed away on February 14, 2002, and she continued living in Grandin until 2005. In July of that year she moved to Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo due to the onset of Dementia.
