Roger A. Elliott, West Fargo, ND, 69, passed away unexpectedly, after a brief illness, on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Roger Allen Elliott was born on Feb. 27, 1944 in Fergus Falls MN to Robert and Rachel (Nelson) Elliott. He graduated from FFHS, was a member of the US Military (Army) and farmed near Dalton, MN. He married Opal Brist in 1965, and they had one child, Tami. They later divorced. Throughout his working career, he worked at Cass Clay Creamery, Pam Oil, Jacobson Transport, Pella Windows, Western Coop, and several other trucking companies. He married Nancy Kost in 1986. Together with their rescue dog, Whitty, they made their home in West Fargo. Roger and Whitty were well known to their neighborhood, due to their many daily walks and visits with all their neighbors. Roger always enjoyed sharing a good story with everyone he met. His quick wit and generous nature will be missed. His generosity followed him in death, with his decision to donate his body to UND School of Medicine for research.

FARGO - From atop one of the massive six-story garbage piles at Fargo’s landfill, dozens of scavenging birds can be seen circling the scraps, and the distinct smell of natural gas fills the nostrils. Paul Hanson, the landfill’s supervisor, stops his pickup on the highest peak overlooking 12th Avenue North and says that on a clear day you can see for miles.

Harlan “Butch” Woken, 84, of Northwood, ND passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at his home in Northwood under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Funeral services will be held today at 2:00pm at Northwood Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northwood.

Harlan is survived by his wife Helen; children: Terry (Tim) Lee, Hillsboro, ND, Barb (Tim) Kraft, Casselton, ND, Scott (Kathy) Woken, Fargo, ND; grandchildren: Carissa (Scott) Olsen, Brenna (Ryan) Opdahl, Travis (Kristi) Kraft, Calvin (Jacki) Kraft, Taylor Kraft and Alex Woken; great grandchildren Riley, Madison, and Kennedy Olsen. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Joan (Martin) Larsen, 81, of Pelican Rapids, MN went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital, Phoenix, AZ.

Joan was born on December, 31 1931 in Hatton, ND. After graduating from Hatton High School, she attended Interstate Business College. She married Ray Martin and they lived and farmed at Hunter, ND. They later moved to Fargo, ND. She is survived by their 4 children: Scott (Deb) Martin, Fargo ND, Brent (DeAnna) Martin, Casselton, ND, Jan (Mike) Short, Prescott Valley, AZ, and Kay (Brad) Lewis, Moorhead, MN. 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
