Thelma H. Lindberg
Thelma H. Lindberg, 81, Fertile, MN, died Friday, March 28, 2014, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile. Thelma Helene Lindberg was born Feb. 15, 1933, in Bear Park, MN, to Harold and Thora Sirjord. She was baptized and confirmed at Faaberg Lutheran Church. She graduated from Gary High School in 1949, when she was 16. In 1973, she received her LPN degree from Agassiz Valley School of Practical Nursing, Crookston, MN. On June 3, 1950, Thelma married Leo Lindberg at the Faaberg Church parsonage in Rindahl, MN. They spent their married life on a farm near Fertile where they raised 6 children. Thelma created a loving home where her children, their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren learned about living with faith, grace, dignity, wisdom, and good humor. Thelma generously served her church and community. A member of Varnes and Concordia Lutheran Churches, she taught Sunday school and was active in the Ladies’ Aid. Thelma was President of WELCA, participated in Christian Women’s Club, T.E.C, and Birthday Club. She worked as a Charge Nurse at Fair Meadow Nursing Home from 1973 to 1995. In retirement, she volunteered at Fair Meadow, participated in Red Hat Ladies and kept up with her lifelong hobbies of traveling, baking, quilting, gardening, knitting, and reading poetry and historical fiction. Throughout her life, Thelma was a steadfast friend to many. Thelma’s great joy in life was seeing her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoying themselves at her Cable Lake cabin and attending their activities. Thelma is survived by her children: Lee Lindberg, Fertile, MN; Mark (Sue) Lindberg, Fertile; Jeff (Randi) Lindberg, Baxter, MN; Kevin (Peggy) Lindberg, Fargo, ND; Brian (Kathi) Lindberg, Mentor, MN; Teresa (Mark) Aakhus, Roosevelt, NJ; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one brother, Hiram (Harriet) Sirjord, Moorhead, MN, three sisters, Altha Spaeth and Sonja Nelson, both of Mahnomen, MN, and Vivian Johnson, Paynesville, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; mother, Thora; father, Harold; and stepmother, Elaine.
