John William (Jack) Schwer
John Schwer, 87, Fargo, died Saturday, May 4, 2013.

Jack was born August 29, 1925 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to John and Celia (Williams) Schwer. He graduated from high school in Berkeley, California and from college at NDAC where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. During World War II he served as a Tech Sergeant in Army Intelligence G2 in Korea. Jack was employed as a trust officer for Bank of America in San Francisco until his retirement when he returned to Fargo.

Lillian Christine Grill
Lillian Christine Grill, 95, of Fargo passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Sanford Medical Center Palliative Care Unit. She was born April 5, 1918 in Streeter, ND to Oscar and Otilla Seher. Lillian was a graduate of Streeter High School and Valley City State University and taught school in the towns of Marion, Kathryn, and Streeter, ND.

On June 8, 1941, she married Helmut Grill in Streeter. They lived in the towns of Streeter, Kathryn, and Casselton, ND, moving to Fargo in 1956. Here, Lillian was employed at what was then known as the Idea Shop and Southside Ben Franklin Store. She retired in 1976. Lillian was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, where in her younger years, she was active in many of the organizations and taught Sunday School.

Maynard "Dusty" Karsten
Maynard "Dusty" Karsten, 68, of Ulen MN died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River.

Maynard Peter “Dusty” Karsten was born May 19, 1944 in Ada, Minnesota the son of F. Peter and Evangeline (Larsen) Karsten. He was raised in Felton and attended school there. As a young man he worked for his Uncle Bill Karsten logging in the Blackduck, Minnesota area. Later he drove truck for Industrial Builders for a few years. On July 11, 1969 Dusty was united in marriage to Eileen Bjerke in Dilworth, Minnesota and after a short time they made their home in Felton, Minnesota. Dusty drove for Cossette Trucking and later for Dittmer Trucking. In the early 1980’s Dusty and Eileen moved their family to Ulen, where they have made their home since. In the early 1990’s, he started working as a mechanic with his father at Pete’s Hi Way 9 Station in Felton. In 1991, Dusty and Eileen purchased the cafe which she operated and in 1996 they purchased the service station which he operated. They operated the businesses together until selling them in 2006. At that time he began working for his son Waylon at ECSI in Pelican Rapids, MN where he operated a plasma welder, a job he truly loved. After Waylon’s death in 2007, Dusty continued working there for a short time before becoming a mechanic for Dunham Gravel where he was employed until last fall. He also did DOT truck inspections for the past several years.

Neil Ole Iverson, 60, of Tipp City, Ohio passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. He was born April 10, 1953 in Fargo, ND to Ole and Joyce (Owen) Iverson. He is preceded in death by his mother; Joyce, wife; Kimberlee (Mahaney) Iverson and brother in-law; Bill Shields. He is survived by his father; Ole Iverson, Fargo, North Dakota, children; Heather and her husband Ben Wead, Tipp City, William “Will” Iverson, Dayton and Rachel Iverson and her fiancé Josh Holman, Tipp City, sisters; Jennifer Thomas, New Jersey and Jackie (Harlan) Jordheim, North Dakota, 3 granddaughters; Savannah and Gracie Wead and Rylee Holman along with several nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Neil was a graduate of North Dakota State School of Science. He was a self-employed musician, a sales representative for United Artists Cable and a member of Tipp City United Methodist Church. Neil’s first love was his family, but he had a passion for music and church. A Celebration of Life Service was held Friday, April 26 at Tipp City United Methodist Church. Juel "Lud" Robert Mattson
Juel "Lud" Robert Mattson was born October 2, 1954 in Park River, ND to D. Kenneth and Marilynn Mattson. Juel died peacefully in his home in Detroit Lakes, MN on May 2, 2013.

D. Kenneth Mattson and his family moved to Mahnomen in 1955, where Juel attended Mahnomen Public Schools. Juel graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1973. He attended Northland Community College in Thief River Falls, MN for medical technician. Juel also received his EMT certificate in 1978. While in high school Juel was employed by Mahnomen Dairy, making milk deliveries to homes around Mahnomen and also worked for Jack's Motor Sports. After obtaining his education as a medical technician and EMT, Juel spent many years dedicated to serving others while employed at United Hospital Ambulance Service; Norman County Ambulance; Polk County Ambulance; Wimmer Hospital, Ada, MN; Mahnomen County and Village Hospital; St. Luke's Hospital, Crosby, ND; Merit Care Hospital, Fargo, ND; Norman County Implement; truck driver for the Fargo Forum; REM-Northstar; the Treatment Center and Aldor Homes in Crookston, MN; Concordia College, Moorhead, MN; and several years driving beet truck for many farmers surrounding Ada, MN.
