Oscar “Bud” S. Johnson, 89, Fargo passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fargo.

Bud was born on January 20, 1925 to Oscar Sr. and Stella (Ness) Johnson in Trail County, North Dakota. He attended school in Twin Valley, MN before going to work on various farms in Norman County. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on June 20, 1946, serving in the Korean Conflict.

Howard Milton Erickson
Howard Milton Erickson, 91, died on January 27, 2014, at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN. Howard was born in Herman, MN, on September 3, 1922, to Oscar and Edna (Johnson) Erickson. He moved with his family to Dilworth, MN, where he attended school and graduated from Moorhead High School, Moorhead, MN. He enlisted in the US Army in 1942, and was later honorably discharged. In 1946, Howard began teaching in Fertile-Beltrami School District.

On March 31, 1947, Howard was united in marriage to Mona Sandberg at Fertile. They operated the H&M Grocery Store until 1956, when they moved to Hawley, MN, and Howard taught Social Studies and coached basketball. In 1959, they moved to Albert Lea, MN, and Howard taught Social Studies, as well as some coaching. He attended Mankato State Teachers College while working in Albert Lea, where he received his MA degree in Guidance Counseling. He then, in 1966, moved to and began working in Columbia Heights, MN, as a guidance counselor, until he retired in the mid 1980’s. After retirement, they made their home in Sun City West, AZ. Mona died in 2005 and Howard moved to Summerfield apartments in Fertile in 2006. He entered the Fair Meadow Nursing Home in 2009.

Ann V. Sannes
Ann V. Sannes, 101, Moorhead, MN, died on Sunday, January 26, 2014, in Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead. She passed to be with Jesus peacefully, and in comfort, having family close by and in the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and the wonderful Eventide support staff.

Ann Viola Herreid was born on November 14, 1912, to Oscar and Minnie (Freeman) Herreid, in Fargo, ND. She lived in Fargo with her parents a few blocks south of Island Park, next to her father's neighborhood grocery store. She attended Hawthorne Elementary, Agassiz Junior High, and graduated from Moorhead High School. Ann worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone until marrying M.C. "Spuds" Sannes in June of 1935. The family moved to Bismarck, ND, for two years and they lived in Minot, ND, from 1945-1956. She spent ten wonderful years there raising her family and doing the accounting for the family business, Sannes Distributing Company. Ann and her family moved back to Moorhead in 1956, where she worked for a short time at MSUM while her husband opened the North Side Off-Sale in Moorhead.

LaVerne "Johnnie" Johnson, a remarkable woman, passed away on January 4, 2014, at her home in Tucson, Arizona. LaVerne was born in Casselton, North Dakota, on April 1, 1928, to Oscar and Laura Johnson, farmers of Scandinavian descent. In her youth, LaVerne rode her horse, Nipper, bareback, attended barn dances, and as her mother boasted "worked harder on the farm than any hired man."

She attended St. John's School of Nursing, in Fargo, North Dakota. In 1948, while on a nursing practicum in Moose Lake, Minnesota, she met the love of her life, Walter. They married in 1949 and moved to Moorhead, Minnesota. After their children, identical twins, Jean and Jo, and their youngest Janet were born, LaVerne returned to nursing at St. Ansgar Hospital.

Berniece Glendora Oscarson Braaten of Fargo, formerly of Kindred, passed away on January 14, 2014, surrounded by family. She was born to Oscar & Louise Oscarson on June 7, 1914, at their home near Colfax, ND. She was baptized in Stearns Lutheran Church by Pastor Engebretson June 21, 1914 and confirmed June 2, 1928, in Richland Lutheran Church by Pastor Nelson.

Berniece loved school and attended Richland County schools and graduated from Christine High School with honors. She was trained as a nurse and worked at the Fargo Hospital.
